Delta Airlines CEO Gerald Grinstein tipped his hand Wednesday, announcing the company will lay off as many as 7,000 workers in hopes of saving $5 billion within the next two years.

Airport Predicts Short-Term Challenges, Long-Term Growth

DFW International Airport says it will continue to work closely with Delta Air Lines in its restructuring efforts here while foreseeing long-term growth for the Airport in the years ahead. The Airport has had communications with Delta officials on the possibility of restructuring. Wednesday, Delta announced it is reducing its daily flights at DFW from 256 to 21, with the remaining flights servicing Delta's other hubs in Atlanta, Cincinnati and Salt Lake City.

Refuses To Send It To Rank And File Vote

US Airways' union pilots just said "NO" Wednesday to the airline's latest request for pay concessions, with leadership refusing to allow the issue to go to a rank-and-file vote. The plan would have cut pilot pay by another 21-percent and would have cut US Airways' contributions to the pilot pension plan by half.

FAA Meeting Opens This Week To Review And Advance Sport-Pilot Infrastructure

The sport pilot/light-sport aircraft final rule has been effective for less than a week, but the Experimental Aircraft Association is already helping create the infrastructure necessary to ensure sport pilot's success, as EAA representatives and other light-sport aircraft industry leaders meet here this week with top officials of the Federal Aviation Administration's newly created Light-Sport Aviation Branch.

2004 DOD Maintenance Award Winners Announced

The Department of Defense Wednesday announced the winners of the Secretary of Defense Maintenance Award for 2004.

Moving Planes, Helping At The EOC

The Civil Air Patrol mobilized its aircraft and personnel to prepare for Hurricane Frances over the weekend, moving aircraft equipped with satellite-transmitted digital imaging systems (SDIS) to "safe haven" locations as close as possible to the hurricane’s expected path. CAP members will use the SDIS systems to capture and transmit aerial photos of affected sites.
