As Hurricane Frances bears down on Florida and the coastal
residents evacuate, Air Force reservists are flying directly into
the storm that everyone else wants to avoid. Called "Hurricane
Hunters," members of Air Force Reserve Command's 53rd Weather
Reconnaissance Squadron at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., have been
flying into Hurricane Frances since Aug. 29.
A step ahead of the FAA and the Department of Homeland Security,
United Airlines Wednesday announced it will install additional
cockpit protection features, beginning with its fleet of Boeing
757s.
As Hurricane Frances continued its inexorable march across the
Caribbean toward landfall somewhere on the east coast of Florida,
airports faced closure and airlines faced cancellations just ahead
of the busy Labor Day weekend.
For now, scientists connected with the Search For
Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) call it an enigma. But
they're certainly leaving open the possibility that the radio
signal they're hearing from 1,000 light years away could be
artificial -- a radio postcard from another species.
Anywhere XM-Wx Provides Weather For Both Directions
Mark Stolzberg of Stony Brook, New York and Fred Coon of
Victoria Texas share a love of flying. They corresponded in
December 2002 on the "Grumman Gang" list-serve. Mark had purchased
a Grumman AA5-B (Tiger) from a seller near Phoenix and needed some
help getting it to his home base on Long Island, N.Y.

Forget who let the dogs out... who put them on the plane?
It seems a group of unruly kids turned Tuesday’s El Al flight
from New York to Tel Aviv into what Israeli media describes as a
"total shambles."
This past Saturday and Sunday the EAA Chapter 723 held their
24th annual airshow at Camarillo (CA). With an impressive mixture
of Warbirds, homebuilts and ultralights, it was an event attended
by thousands.
Three military service members were injured when a UH-3H Sea

Standardization of Avionics Technology Solves Compatibility,
Cost Issues
The growing demand for advanced avionic test systems has
challenged test vendors in the automatic test equipment (ATE)
market. In a bid to align their legacy systems with upcoming
technologies in the line replaceable units (LRU) space, most
vendors are trying to develop newer test program sets (TPS) that
are also compatible with older systems.
International Space Station Commander Gennady Padalka and NASA
ISS Science Officer Mike Fincke will replace and install equipment
during their fourth and final Expedition 9 spacewalk.
"I have never seen anything like this. Kids... were totally out
of control, behaving like hooligans. They were smoking on the
flight, and drinking large quantities of alcohol. Some of them
bought a bottle of whiskey from the duty free, and drank the entire
bottle, arriving in Israel totally pickled."

Tuesday's flight from New York to Tel Aviv. Two groups of young
people sponsored by religious organizations apparently got way out
of hand. Not only was there smoking and drinking on board the
aircraft -- crew members say they caught some of the kids trying to
initiate themselves into the Mile High Club.
