A pilot in South Africa made a hasty emergency landing after discovering a highly venomous cobra stowed away beneath his seat. Rudolf Erasmus, who was transporting four passengers aboard a Beechcraft Baron-58 reported feeling “something cold” slide across his lower back as the aircraft departed the town of Worcester in South Africa’s Western Cape. Mr. Erasmus glanced down to see the head of a Cape Cobra “receding back under the seat.” Skyryse announced plans to certify a variation of Robinson’s R66 single-turbine-engine light-helicopter for IFR flight. Friday, 07 April 2023 found Ball Aerospace—the improbable but highly-successful division of the famed home-canning powerhouse—celebrating the successful launch of its Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) instrument aboard a commercial satellite blasted spaceward from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. TEMPO is NASA's first Earth Venture instrument mission and will provide critical data pertaining to the Earth’s atmosphere—particularly types, concentrations, and movement of air pollution over the North American continent.

Skyryse has announced plans to certify a variation of Robinson’s R66 single-turbine-engine light-helicopter for IFR flight. The aircraft is supplemented with a suite of technologies that Skyryse asserts will make general aviation “safer and more affordable, with the costs of purchasing and operating this system only a fraction of pre-existing programs with the same purpose.”

Wreckage Debris Field Extended About 0.9 Miles Southwest Of The Main Wreckage

On February 24, 2023, at 2114 Pacific standard time, a Pilatus PC-12/45, N273SM, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Stagecoach, Nevada. The pilot, and four passengers were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 135 air ambulance flight. The flight, operated by Guardian Flight LLC, departed Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), Reno, Nevada, to transport a patient to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), Salt Lake City, Utah.

Del Rio, Tx Wind Shear Incident Serves as Lesson for Part 91 Operators

The NTSB published the summary regarding a significant bout of wind shear leaving Del Rio, Texas in November of 2022, illustrating the dangers with some sobering imagery. The incident occurred while climbing out from Del Rio International Airport, passing 4,000 ft msl about 7 miles northeast of the field. The aircraft, while at climb power, went from a consistent 1,500 fpm climb to zero, then just as quickly to a descent of 1,500 ft.
