Prepped For First Solo? NASA Ingenuity Mars Helicopter Readies For Flight

"Once We Start The Deployment There Is No Turning Back"

NASA is targeting no earlier than April 8 for the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter to make the first attempt at powered, controlled flight of an aircraft on another planet. Before the 4-pound rotorcraft can attempt its first flight, however, both it and its team must meet a series of daunting milestones. Ingenuity remains attached to the belly of NASA’s Perseverance rover, which touched down on Mars Feb. 18. On March 21, the rover deployed the guitar case-shaped graphite composite debris shield that protected Ingenuity during landing. US Navy Recovers Downed MH-60S Helicopter from Record Depth

Air Crew Was Able To Escape The MH-60S Before It Sank And No Lives Were Lost In The Accident

NAVSEA’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) recovered a downed Navy MH-60S helicopter from a depth of 19,075 feet off the coast of Okinawa, Japan Thursday, March 22nd. The helicopter, a twin-engine Sikorsky Seahawk, crashed into the Pacific Ocean last year while operating from the amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). The air crew was able to escape the MH-60S before it sank and no lives were lost in the accident. NTSB Prelim: Beech 35

Recently Purchased By The Pilot And Was Being Transported To The Pilot’S Home Residence

On March 6, 2021, about 1340 central standard time, a Beech 35 airplane, N3394V, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Palestine, Texas. The private pilot sustained serious injuries and the private pilot-rated passenger sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The airplane was recently purchased by the pilot and was being transported to the pilot’s home residence in the greater Dallas, Texas area. The pilot reported that while enroute, the engine lost power.

AD: Airbus Canada Limited Partnership

AD 2021-05-10 Requires Repetitive Functional Tests Of The APU Fuel Feed Line Shroud

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Airbus Canada Limited Partnership Model BD-500-1A10 and BD-500-1A11 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that threaded fuel couplings were incorrectly installed at final assembly and in service. This AD requires repetitive functional tests of the auxiliary power unit (APU) fuel feed line shroud, a general visual inspection of the APU fuel feed line shroud for any loose couplings; and tightening any loose couplings, which would terminate the repetitive functional tests. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective April 26, 2021.
