Airborne 03.17.21: Falcon SAM STC, Alaska ANG Rescue, Fifth 2021 Spacewalk

Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics has announced the company's SAM MD302 Standby Attitude Module, is STC approved on Falcon 900 A/B/C/EX Series for FAA, EASA and AFAC (Mexico) registered aircraft. The 2-inch, solid-state instrument displays attitude, altitude, airspeed, slip, vertical trend and heading information to the pilot during normal or standby operation in the event of primary instrument failure. SAM replaces the Attitude Horizon Standby, Altimeter and Standby Mach Airspeed Indicator onboard the Falcon Jet. Alaska Air National Guardsmen assigned to the 176th Wing rescued an injured Iditarod musher March 9 from the Rohn Roadhouse about 136 miles northwest of Anchorage

The Commemorative Air Force has announced a generous $500,000 matching grant from the Ray Foundation to aid in funding the Henry B. Tippie National Aviation Education Center at the CAF’s headquarters in Dallas. The Ray Foundation will match all funds raised dollar-for-dollar, up to $500,000, received through December 31, 2021. Coast Guard Medevacs Injured Hiker Near Grays Harbor, Wa

MH-60T JAYHAWK Helicopters To The Rescue (Kind Of A Daily Occurrence...)

A Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew from Sector Columbia River medevaced an injured hiker Monday evening from the south jetty of Grays Harbor, Washington. The hiker reportedly suffered a broken leg and was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for higher medical care. At 5:28 p.m., watchstanders at Sector Columbia River received a report from Grays Harbor dispatch of a male hiker injured out on the jetty rocks.

Alaska ANG Airmen Rescue Injured Iditarod Musher

Guardian Angel Teams Are Highly Trained Search-And-Rescue Specialists With Arctic Expertise

Alaska Air National Guardsmen assigned to the 176th Wing rescued an injured Iditarod musher March 9 from the Rohn Roadhouse about 136 miles northwest of Anchorage. Senior Master Sgt. Evan Budd, Alaska Rescue Coordination Center superintendent, said the musher sustained multiple injuries after falling while coming into the Rohn checkpoint. The AKRCC requested assistance from the 176th Wing, which dispatched a 210th Rescue Squadron HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter and a 212th Rescue Squadron Guardian Angel team. Guardian Angel teams are highly trained search-and-rescue specialists with arctic expertise.

Jazz Pilot Leadership Approves Agreement

Jazz Pilots Will Fly All 70+ Seat Aircraft Under The Air Canada Express Banner Until 2025

Sunday night, pilot leaders of Jazz Aviation, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) finalized an agreement with their management that enables the company to become the exclusive express operator for Air Canada. The pilots agreed to terms which enable revision of the capacity purchase agreement (CPA) between Jazz Aviation LP, and Air Canada. Under the agreement, Jazz pilots will fly all 70+ seat aircraft under the Air Canada Express banner until 2025. The Flight Was Part Of A Sales Transaction

On February 20, 2021, about 1748 central standard time, a Piper PA-32RT-300T, N10KV, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near the Cullman Regional Airport (CMD), Vinemont, Alabama. The pilot and a passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to airport surveillance video the airplane took off from runway 2 about 1740, made one touch-and-go landing at 1746, then impacted terrain at 1748. Witnesses reported that the flight was part of a sales transaction between the pilot who owned the airplane, and the passenger who was the potential buyer.

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2017-26-10, which applied to certain The Boeing Company Model 757 airplanes. AD 2017-26-10 required deactivating the spoiler control module (SCM) relays and capping and stowing the associated wiring on certain airplanes. This AD requires repetitive operational tests of the spoiler inhibit function. AD 2021-05-06 Prompted By Incidents Of Difficulty Unbuttoning The Extraction Tape On The Windows

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Airbus Helicopters Model AS332C, AS332C1, AS332L, AS332L1, AS332L2, EC 155B, EC155B1, EC225LP, and SA330J helicopters. This AD requires inspecting the snap fasteners on the windows. This AD was prompted by incidents of difficulty unbuttoning the extraction tape on the windows. The actions of this AD are intended to address an unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective April 19, 2021.
