Border Patrol Agents Locate Downed Aircraft and Rescue Passengers

Agents Transported Subjects Over Harsh Terrain To Awaiting Emergency Medical Services

On March 24, 2021 at approximately 0145 MST, New Mexico State Police requested the assistance from Lordsburg Border Patrol Station in the search and rescue of a downed fixed-wing single engine aircraft in the southern end of the Pyramid Mountains. Lordsburg Station immediately dispatched Border Patrol Agents along with a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Agents were equipped with All-Terrain Vehicles, Utility Terrain Vehicles and night vision equipment. After an extensive search, Lordsburg agents were able to locate a pilot and passenger at the coordinates provided by NMSP. EAA Opines on NTSB Part 91 Revenue Passenger-Carrying Ops Hearing

Most NTSB Recommendations Would Mandate Best Practices That Many Ride Providers Already Implement

On Tuesday, the NTSB held a hearing regarding a new report on the safety of Part 91 revenue passenger-carrying operations. These operations include sightseeing tours in airplanes, balloons, helicopters, gliders, skydiving flights, and rides in historic aircraft. The latter includes flights under the Living History Flight Experience (LHFE) exemption program, which allows operators of former military aircraft certificated in the Experimental Exhibition and Limited categories to provide flights to the public for compensation or hire on a case-by-case basis. EAA operates its B-17 and B-25 under the LHFE program.

Representative John Cyrier Proposes New Bill in Texas

There seems to be a rash of ridiculous, aero-ignorant attempts to regulate aviation by entities without the power or knowledge to do so... and it's terrifying to examine some of the nonsense that is being proposed. A case in point; our friends at AMA tell us that on March 9, 2021, Representative John Cyrier (R-Texas) introduced House Bill No. 3403. The bill proposes that it be a criminal offense to fly any unmanned aircraft outside of the direct line of sight of the operator, above unauthorized private property, attempts to set altitude restrictions, and imposes a fee for such an occurrence. AMA believes that this bill could impact the model aircraft community if it is passed.

'Accident Pilot Seemed Distracted And Was Not Himself'

On March 2, 2021, about 1539 Alaska standard time, a Robinson Helicopter Company R66 helicopter, N1767, is presumed destroyed after it impacted ocean waters about 70 miles north of Kodiak, Alaska. The pilot, the sole occupant, is presumed fatally injured. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot’s wife, her husband owned Kodiak Helicopters, LLC which owned and operated the accident helicopter. The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2019-06-06 for all International Aero Engines AG (IAE) V2500-A1, V2522-A5, V2524-A5, V2525-D5, V2527-A5, V2527E-A5, V2527M-A5, V2528-D5, V2530-A5, and V2533-A5 model turbofan engines. AD 2019-06-06 required initial and repetitive borescope inspections (BSIs) of the M-flange and, if it fails the inspection, replacement of the diffuser case with a part eligible for installation. This AD requires an initial BSI of the M-flange and, if it fails the inspection, repetitive BSIs of the M-flange until replacement of the diffuser case M-flange.
