The commander of the first mission to orbit the moon received an
honorary doctor of science degree by Air University officials for
his contributions to aviation and space exploration at the Air
Force Test Pilot School June 13th.
"Phase B" Should Enhance Performance For All Users
The Northrop Grumman Corporation Global Positioning System (GPS)
Advanced Control Segment (OCX) team on June 20 submitted its
proposal to the U.S. Air Force for the OCX Phase B contract. The
Northrop Grumman proposal draws upon the team's decades of
navigation experience.
NASA has signed a $144 million follow-on contract with ARES
Corp. of Burlingame, CA, for International Space Station Program
integration and control services. The three-year contract is
effective Oct. 1, 2009 through Sept. 30, 2012, and includes two
one-year options that could extend the contract through Sept. 30,
2014.
Engineers believe they now understand why a hydrogen gas vent
line has been leaking, causing shuttle Endeavour's STS-127 mission
to be postponed twice. According to Space Shuttle Program Manager
John Shannon, a plate that attaches the vent line to Endeavour's
external fuel tank is slightly misaligned.
