NLRB Acting General Counsel Announces Close Of Boeing Case

Final Step In Resolution Of Dispute Over Boeing's 787 South Carolina Assembly Plant

The NLRB has closed its case against Boeing filed by the Machinists union, which was fighting the planemaker's plans to construct 787 Dreamliners in South Carolina, a right to work state. The issue had become a focal point for conservatives who said the company should have a right to assemble its airplanes where it make the most business sense to do so. The machinists had brought the charges saying Boeing was retaliating against labor unions who had stopped work in the planemaker's Pacific Northwest operations in the past.

COTS Demonstrations Now Set For Feb 7 Liftoff

NASA has announced the launch target for Space Exploration Technologies' (SpaceX) second Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) demonstration flight will be February 7, 2012. Pending completion of final safety reviews, testing and verification, NASA also has agreed to allow SpaceX to send its Dragon spacecraft to rendezvous with the International Space Station (ISS) in a single flight.

Requests Authorization To Impose Countermeasures Against EU's Claims

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk announced Friday that the United States is requesting that the European Union (EU) enter into consultations regarding the notification it made on December 1, 2011, claiming to have fully complied with the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling that subsidization of Airbus aircraft is contrary to WTO rules. The United States has reviewed carefully the limited information in that notification. It appears to show that the EU has not withdrawn the subsidies in question and has, in fact, granted new subsidies to Airbus’ development and production of large civil aircraft.

Groups Representing Pilots, Owners, Manufacturers, Airlines Coordinate Efforts To Oppose European Tax

Members of a coalition including nearly all segments of aviation are calling on U.S. senators to back legislation introduced Wednesday by Senator John Thune (R-SD), which would prohibit operators of all U.S. aircraft from participating in the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS).

Report Indicates Hundreds Of 'Astromaterials' Have Been Lost

A report released Thursday by NASA's Inspector General indicates that the agency has lost hundreds of samples of moon rocks and other "astromaterials" since the first specimens were returned to Earth by the Apollo program. NASA confirmed that 517 loaned astromaterials have been lost or stolen between 1970 and June 2010, including 18 lunar samples reported lost by a researcher in 2010 and 218 lunar and meteorite samples stolen from a researcher at the Johnson Space Center in 2002, but since recovered.

The pilot of a 1943 Curtiss Wright P-40M was uninjured after his airplane developed a mechanical problem in flight and attempted an emergency landing at Clermont County Municipal Airport (I69) in Batavia, OH.
