Lou Mancuso Speaks About His Experience With The Aircraft

At the end of Sun ‘N Fun 2021, we had the opportunity to speak with Lou Mancuso about his experience flying the 915 Bristell and what the future holds for the aircraft. Mancuso says that the 915 light sport Bristell was the only light sport that has been able to qualify with the Rotax 915 iS engine. “The last time I flew it I went from 400 feet to 18000 feet in 12 minutes with an average 1500 feet a minute climb all the way up there, and when I was at 18000 I was still getting 1400 feet a minute climb,” Mancuso says.

2022 Event Will Take Place In Switzerland In Their Honor

Kurt Frieden and Pascal Witpräechtiger of Team SUI-2, Switzerland, received their medals and trophies in Torun, Poland in late August, following their win of the Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett. The historic gas balloon race has one simple goal: to fly the furthest non-stop distance from the launch site. Frieden and Witpräechtiger were the last crew to be airborne and flew 2.22 miles** further than the competitors behind them. This gained their victory after they landed in Les Landes Genusson in France on Wednesday, August 25th. Total airtime was 85 hours after traveling 969 miles from the launch site in Aeroklub Pomorski in Poland.

Utah Non-Profit Helps People Soar To Heights They Didn’t Think Were Possible

A Utah based organization called Project Airtime, takes anyone who wants to go flying, flying. For free. The adaptive paragliding program is designed to assist anyone who may have an injury or disability, and their caregivers, and show them that paragliding is still possible. Founder, Chris Santacroce, suffered a life-altering spinal cord injury in the 2000’s and now views life in a different way. He wants others to be able to experience the freedom he experienced with paragliding. James Raisbeck passed away Tuesday, August 31st, 2021. James was an iconic figure in the aviation industry and the founder of Raisbeck Engineering with a sixty-seven year long career. “I am honored to lead the company that bears James Raisbeck’s name. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know James and I valued his input, insights and wisdom. The Event Will Now Take Place At Pensacola Beach

Teams Are Trained To Rescue Astronauts That Detach From Rocket In Emergency

The 38th Rescue Squadron, located in Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, conducted rescue training of their pararescuemen in the Banana River and Atlantic Ocean near Patrick Space Force Base in the last week of August. The 38th RQS Blue Team trains to assist in the SpaceX human spaceflight program and Boeing’s spaceflight program, covering the ocean below them in the event of an emergency. If there is an issue during launch, that capsule will detach from the spacecraft with the ultimate goal being to land in the ocean where the pararescuemen can go rescue those who have been separated from the rocket. 

Over $100,000 Of Helicopter Flight Training Scholarships Available

The Whirly-Girls Scholarship Fund is proud to announce the opening of the 2022 scholarship season. Female aviators can apply for over $100,000 of helicopter flight training and educational scholarships. The goal of these scholarships is to strengthen the diversity, and overall talent pool of the helicopter industry. Applications must be submitted by October 3rd, 2021. Awards are available for both experienced and newly-certificated pilots and examples include classes in turbine transition, software use, commercial flight training, and a helicopter rating.

Domestic Flights Taking Place, No Radar or Navigation 

Domestic flights have begun taking place from the Kabul airport, though more work is required before international flights resume. “Officially the airport is open. Over the past two days, we’ve repaired more than we expected,”  Muhammad Salim Saad, the Taliban commander in charge of airport security, said September 5th. “I want to assure all people that the airport is safe and secure,” Saad continued. On August 11, 2021, about 1000 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 150M, N66748 sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Wadsworth, Ohio. The pilot and passenger were uninjured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that after she taxied to runway 21, she utilized the airplane’s checklist and performed an engine run-up, which included checking the magnetos and carburetor heat. Severe Weather Forecast Alerts Preliminary messages issued in order to alert users that a Severe Weather Watch Bulletin (WW) is being issued. These messages define areas of possible severe thunderstorms or tornado activity. The messages are unscheduled and issued as required by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) at Norman, Oklahoma.
