ALPA to U.S. Government: No More Excuses, Protect the Flight Deck

Group Maintains All Cargo Aircraft Need Hardened Flight Deck Doors

The Air Line Pilots Association is calling on Federal regulators to address a glaring aviation security vulnerability. Last month, ALPA called on Transportation Secretary Buttigieg to urge the FAA to issue a final secondary flight deck barrier regulation which was mandated by Congress nearly three years ago. “The greatest way to honor the memories of the nearly 3,000 people who died is to use our voices, expertise and resolve to ensure that 9/11 is in America’s past—and not a prelude to another terrorist attack in which airplanes are, once again, turned into weapons of mass destruction,” said Capt. Becker Avionics Partners with Iris Automation

Team Presents The Community With A Collision Avoidance Safety System

Becker Avionics and Iris Automation, have entered into a strategic partnership to increase the situational awareness of general aviation pilots and advance uncrewed aerial vehicle safety. The two companies will team up to develop a non-required safety enhancing equipment system to detect and warn pilots of nearby aircraft. The collision avoidance safety system uses computer vision and machine learning to "see" when another aircraft is approaching from outside the pilot's field of view, and poses a risk to the equipped aircraft, issuing 3D audio warnings. The solution will combine Iris Automation's patented Casia detect and alert technology with Becker Avionics' communication and

GA-ASI Flies UAS In The Canadian Arctic

Milestone Achieved, New Ground Covered

A historic limitation of long-endurance UAS has been their inability to operate at extreme northern or southern latitudes. Many legacy SATCOM datalinks can become less reliable above the Arctic or below the Antarctic Circle – approximately 66 degrees north. In a flight that originated from its Flight Test and Training Center near Grand Forks, ND, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems flew a company-owned MQ-9A “Big Wing” configured Unmanned Aircraft System north through Canadian airspace past the 78th parallel.

US Marine Corps Supports Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief Mission in Haiti

The Bell Boeing MV-22 Helps Many With Emergency Assistance

Following the recent earthquake in Haiti, US Marines operated the Bell Boeing MV-22 in Jeremie, Haiti, using it to distribute relief supplies to Haitian citizens in need. “People waved and cheered as a Marine Corps unit from North Carolina descended in a tilt-rotor Osprey with pallets of rice, tarps and other supplies. Most of the supplies, however, were not destined for Jeremie. They were for distribution to remote mountain communities where landslides destroyed homes and the small plots of the many subsistence farmers in the area,” according to an article by Ben Fox posted on the AP.
