Aircraft Had Been Slated For Placement With The Afghan Air Force
The Pentagon has reversed course on a plan to acquire an additional 15 Russian Mi-17 helicopters from Rosoboronexport for the Afghan Air Force. The aircraft were to have been acquired at a cost of $345 million to the U.S. taxpayer.
The open house traditionally held every other year at Joint Base Andrews just south of Washington, D.C. has been cancelled for 2014, according to a release from the base.
Lockheed Martin will close and consolidate several of its U.S. facilities and reduce its workforce by 4,000 positions as part of its effort to increase the efficiency of its operations and improve the affordability of its products and services. These actions are in response to continued declines in U.S. government spending.
