Brazilian federal police aircraft intercepted and shot down a twin-engine general aviation aircraft as its pilot attempted to take-off Sunday. The 65-year old pilot was reportedly killed. His 50-year old passenger was arrested.

The week-long search for a deHavilland DHC-6 that went down in the jungles of Indonesia's West Papua province was spotted over the weekend. All 18 people on board -- 14 passengers and four crew members -- were lost in the mishap.

Canadian National Research Council's New Icing Tunnel Puts Engine Through Its Paces

Albuquerque, New Mexico-based jet-maker Eclipse Aviation has just completed a $335,000 contract with the National Research Council Institute for Aerospace Research (NRC Aerospace) for engine nacelle icing tests on its Eclipse 500 jet. The test program, which included icing tunnel-based nacelle and engine/nacelle combinations required for certification purposes, took place during March and April at the NRC Aerospace facilities in Ottawa, Canada.

Official Says Subsidies Might Continue If City Reconstitutes Airport Board

Should space shuttle astronauts have to abandon their landing plans and hightail it to the International Space Station in an emergency, what happens to the damaged or malfunctioning shuttle itself? NASA is trying to address that issue, wondering with all its bureaucratic might whether the shuttle might be remotely piloted home.

By ANN Correspondent John Ballantyne Sure, there are many awards and commendations showered on well deserving individuals who excel at Sun 'n Fun each year. But it seems that some always fall through the cracks. So ANN endeavored to ferret out those individuals who get less credit than deserved, and to again mention those who are the rocks on which ultralight and light sport aviation are anchored. To accomplish this goal ANN conducted an entirely unscientific, but thoughtful, series of interviews with principal exhibitors, volunteers near the close of the Sun 'n Fun fly in, 2005.

Excess Aviation War Liability Coverage Supplements Regular Coverage

AIG Monday launched what it calls "Excess Aviation War Liability coverage." The new coverage is designed to help corporate flight departments and owners of private aircraft meet the new minimum liability requirements mandated by insurance regulators in the European Union, according to an AIG statement.

"I am not at all sure how we would use that capability, because here you've got an orbiter that is not safe to bring people back on and yet you're going to try to land it, presumably in case you were too conservative. But in doing that you have to fly it over folks." Source: Wayne Hale, NASA's deputy director of the shuttle program, speculating about some of the problems the agency might encounter designing and flying a shuttle that could land by remote. If the crew had to abandon ship and take up temporary quarters on the International Space Station, proponents of the idea say the space plane could be flown home like a UAV. But the question becomes -- would a damaged shuttle make it without hurting someone or something on the ground? Hale was quoted by the Orland
