Polaris Dawn Aims to Reach Furthest Orbit Since Lunar Landings

SpaceX kicked the week off with a surprise, breaking news of an upcoming mission led by tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, veteran of the Inspiration4 mission last fall. The mission, Polaris Dawn, will take his prior adventure's goals even further, going to a higher orbit with a larger crew of privately-funded civilian astronauts. If successful, the Polaris will end up reaching the highest point a manned spaceflight has reached since the Moon missions decades prior.

HTS7500 Turboshaft Engine Selected for Military Helicopter Program

Honeywell has gained some recognition with the selection of its newest turboshaft engine program, the HTS7500. The engine will power a joint Lockheed Martin Sikorsky-Boeing program developing the DEFIANT X helicopter in the running for the U.S. Army's Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft competition.If selected, the Defiant will be the fastest assault helicopter in Army inventory, besting the Black Hawk in range and speed. The HTS7500 boasts over 7,000 shaft horsepower, a substantial improvement over its military helicopter predecessor, the T55.

Only weeks after announcing that the Rhode Island National Guard Air Show would be rebranded as the Ocean State Air Show and held at Quonset, Rhode Island in 2022, the former patron has announced its cancellation entirely citing a range of difficulties in putting on the whole shebang, from parking shortfalls and airport reconstruction to standing guard commitments elsewhere. The change is unsurprising for air show enthusiasts who have been subjected to a seemingly constant stream of show cancellations just as things finally seemed to return to an approximate 'normal' in the circuit. Americans Permitted to Return Home Via Tel Aviv

Israeli flag carrier El Al has announced the allocation of additional aircraft in an effort to assist the evacuation of thousands of Americans stuck in Ukraine, with the goal to bring them back to the states via Tel Aviv, Israel. The growing tensions, uncertainty, and saber rattling in the area have led to many deciding to leave while the way is clear, but airline services from the west have already reduced or suspended service to Ukraine, fearing a repeat of 2014's downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. El Al is one of the few carriers remaining, flying constant scheduled service between their home base and Kiev.

Airbus has seen another successful sale to a global, full-service aircraft lessor, signing a firm contract for 20 Airbus A220s hot on the heels of a much larger buy with the same group in December. Aviation Capital Group, owned by Tokyo Century Corporation, had placed an order for 40 A320neo and 5 A321XLRs in an expansion of their operations. Aviation Capital Group's fleet has grown significantly with the expansion of low-cost carriers and shipping services around the world.

On January 26, 2022, about 1055 mountain standard time, a Beech F33A, N1HH, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Williams, Arizona. The pilot sustained minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The pilot reported that he departed from H A Clark Memorial Field Airport, runway 36, and turned left to the west. While ascending, about 700 to 800 ft agl, the engine lost power and the pilot initiated a right turn toward the airport.
