Dickson Resigns Halfway into 5-Year Term

FAA Head Says "It is Time to Go Home"

FAA Head honcho Steve Dickson has announced his resignation from the FAA, effective March 31. He said the rationale is that the pandemic has caused lengthy separation from his family, made more common by the rise of travel restrictions along his Georgia to D.C. commute. While premature, he said his tenure has guided the administration into becoming a better version of itself than it was when he was appointed by the Trump administration. His time at the FAA saw a number of controversies, from the Boeing 737 Max debacle which harmed public confidence in the FAA, as well as the rash of disruptive passengers that have continued to grow in number since 2020. The most recent crisis was the back and forth

Radek Wyrzykowski, now former Senior Program Manager over the EAA's Flight Proficiency Program, has given permission to publish his letter of resignation to the association after the rumor mill began to church out the usual gossip-flavored sausage or assumptions and tall tales. His work as Chief Flight Instructor presaged his upward trajectory as founder of the IMC Club International, where he served as presiding officer until its acquisition by the EAA. His transition into a management role there saw an expansion of the club to VMC pilots as well. Under the EAA, the clubs are meant to build proficiency as extensions of local EAA chapters where monthly meetings allo

Lockheed Drops Aerojet Acquisition

Risk to Shareholders Too High To Fight FTC In Court, Says CEO

Lockheed Martin has rescinded its $4.4 billion bid to acquire Aerojet Rocketdyne, saying that fighting the  Federal Trade Commission lawsuit in court would create too much risk for shareholders, despite the positive aspects that the integration would create. The deal has been in the works since 2020, when Lockheed targeted Aerojet in order to establish a foundation for its hypersonic, missile defense, and space travel programs. Aerojet was a fairly good target for acquisition, with plenty of business in its order book but hungry for a backer with deeper pockets. The FTC took issue with the prospective deal because the two companies essentially make up the entirety of the domes

Jazeera Airways of Kuwait Expands Again

Up-and-Comer Places Order for 28 More Airbus Narrowbodies

Kuwaiti airline Jazeera Airways has been on a continuous growth streak in recent years, and their most recent deal with Airbus will net them an additional 28 aircraft for their own fleet, a long way from their early fleet of leased aircraft. The signed MOU will get them 20 A320neos and 8 A321neos, a good mix for their usual assortment of routes throughout the Middle East and Asia. The post-pandemic travel surge seems to continue unabated if aircraft sales are any indicator of where the industry's heart is. A large purchase of aircraft to those airlines who usually preferred to leave the trouble and risk of direct ownership to their lessors could be said to show a level of confiden

AD: Airbus Helicopters

AD 2022-03-17 Prompted By A Report Of Loss Of Tightening Torque...

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Airbus Helicopters Model AS332L2 and EC225LP helicopters. This AD was prompted by a report of loss of tightening torque on the nut that attaches the tail gear box (TGB) bevel wheel. This AD requires repetitive inspections (measurements) of the angular clearances of the TGB, and, depending on the findings, replacement of the TGB with a serviceable TGB, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference. This AD also provides terminating action for certain repetitive inspections. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effe

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (02.17.22)

"Recent organizational decisions contrary to the initial understanding and previous agreements prevent me from serving the IMC and VMC Club's current and prospective participants the way it was envisioned when I did create the program in 2010 and later on joined the EAA. Due to irreconcilable differences in opinions about management style and organizational direction, I cannot, with a clear conscience, continue with my employment and be a part of this direction."
