FAA Head honcho Steve Dickson has announced his resignation from the FAA, effective March 31. He said the rationale is that the pandemic has caused lengthy separation from his family, made more common by the rise of travel restrictions along his Georgia to D.C. commute. While premature, he said his tenure has guided the administration into becoming a better version of itself than it was when he was appointed by the Trump administration. His time at the FAA saw a number of controversies, from the Boeing 737 Max debacle which harmed public confidence in the FAA, as well as the rash of disruptive passengers that have continued to grow in number since 2020. The Airplane First Impacted Emerald Mountain About 8,172 ft MSL

On December 10, 2021, about 1809 mountain standard time, a Piper PA46-500TP, N744Z, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. A review of archived Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) automatic dependent surveillance broadcast (ADS-B) data revealed that the airplane departed Cody, Wyoming, about 1705 for the estimated one-hour flight to Steamboat Springs/Bob Adams Field (SBS).
