Guided Missile Cruiser USS Gettysburg Mistook F/A-18 for Enemy Aircraft
Two US Naval aviators on an F/A-18 Super Hornet were shot down over the Red Sea on December 22. Military officials reported that it was a ‘friendly fire’ incident, with a US-owned guided missile cruiser mistaking the fighter jet for an enemy aircraft. Luckily, both pilots were able to eject from the F/A-18 and parachute down safely, with just one suffering minor injuries.
