EAA notes that, 'On Friday, October 7, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its long-awaited proposed finding of endangerment regarding lead emissions from piston aircraft. This was not unexpected and is the first step in a multi-year, multi-step regulatory process that will most likely conclude with the eventual removal of lead from avgas.'

Room To Grow... MHIRJ Will Add Over 100,000 Sq. Ft. Of Hangar Space

MHI RJ Aviation Group (MHIRJ) has completed Phase 1 of its expansion project at the West Virginia Service Center, located at North Central West Virginia Airport. Upon completion of the expansion project, MHIRJ will add over 100,000 sq. ft. of hangar space, adding six additional lines of heavy maintenance to its MRO infrastructure. This expansion solidifies MHIRJ's position as the largest regional MRO in the US, offering state-of-the-art facilities to the CRJ Series customer base. In addition, this new expansion will allow MHIRJ to continue pursuing its diversification strategy, enabling MHIRJ to support MRO activities on larger aircraft up to and including narrowbody aircraft.

USCIS to Swear in Candidates and Honor Heroes in LE, Fire, EMS, and Military

The San Fernando Valley will be home to the admission-free American Heroes Air Show on November 12, taking place in tandem with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) swearing in ceremony for a group of the country's newest citizens. The Ceremony will take place on November 12th at the Hansen Dam Recreation Center, where candidates will be sworn in and present their citizenship certificates to friends, family, and attendees as the newest additions to the American project. They ring in their time as countrymen with a bang, following up the ceremony with an air show featuring public safety and military helicopters.

Student pilots of the armed services might see some spiffy avionics in their future now that Genesys Aerosystems has obtained an FAA project number to approve their avionics in their T-6 Texan IIs. The number starts off the process to add the Beech Model 3000/ T-6 Texan II to an existing STC for its Swiss competitor, the Pilatus PC-7.

"Quiet Supersonic" Technology Set for 2023 Takeoff

The NASA Quesst program received an update on their program, showing off some of the recent developments in their X-59 as they ready themselves for a test flight in 2023. The aircraft is the spiritual descendant of the original Bell X-1 that first broke the sound barrier 75 years prior, continuing its work as the team continues NASA's mission to push the envelope of supersonic capability. Breaking the sound barrier is a loud, intrusive event for those at ground level, but the X-59 is designed to slip past it in relative calm. 

AD 2022-21-11 Requires Repetitive Inspections Of Each MRB

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Bell Textron Inc. Model 204B, 205A, and 205A-1 helicopters and various restricted category helicopters. This AD was prompted by a report of cracked main rotor blades (MRBs). This AD requires repetitive inspections of each MRB and removing any cracked MRB from service. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective November 16, 2022.

On July 23, 2022, at 1243 central daylight time, a Beech A35, N8466A, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident in Centralia, Illinois. The pilot was seriously injured, the passenger was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that he had recently purchased the airplane (April 2022), and the only recent maintenance had been the pre-buy inspection and subsequently a light bulb was replaced for the landing gear up indicator.

Flight Level A level of constant atmospheric pressure related to a reference datum of 29.92 inches of mercury. Each is stated in three digits that represent hundreds of feet. For example, flight level (FL) 250 represents a barometric altimeter indication of 25,000 feet; FL 255, an indication of 25,500 feet.
