Free Los Angeles Air Show to Coincide with Citizenship Ceremony

USCIS to Swear in Candidates and Honor Heroes in LE, Fire, EMS, and Military

The San Fernando Valley will be home to the admission-free American Heroes Air Show on November 12, taking place in tandem with the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) swearing in ceremony for a group of the country's newest citizens.

The Ceremony will take place on November 12th at the Hansen Dam Recreation Center, where candidates will be sworn in and present their citizenship certificates to friends, family, and attendees as the newest additions to the American project. They ring in their time as countrymen with a bang, following up the ceremony with an air show featuring public safety and military helicopters. The show also aims to educate the public about careers in public safety while demystifying them as a community resource for homeland defense, service, and national security throughout the country.

Steve Goldsworthy, Volunteer Event Director, said his team is pumped to get started. “We’re proud to have USCIS partner with us once again for this very special event when the American Heroes Air Show lands at the Hansen Dam Recreation Center,” said Goldsworthy. “It’s our honor to recognize our newest U.S. citizens and welcome their attending families to this special ceremony – just one part of this diverse community event where we recognize our Heroes in law enforcement, fire / EMS, national defense and homeland security.”

That through-line has been a part of the show for years, with event staff frequently working with the Los Angeles USCIS office to help recognize the accomplishments of those being sworn in. “Given the exciting theme of the Heroes event it’s a great opportunity to bring this educational ceremony to the community,” Goldsworthy added. “Not many people get to witness a formal citizenship ceremony and it provides a compelling real-life civics lesson as well as a memorable way for the community to understand the sometimes-complex citizenship process.”
