False Rumor of Lufthansa Ban on Apple Tracking Device Makes the Rounds

Portable Tracking Device Allowed on Checked Baggage Per TSA, Lufthansa

Lufthansa saw a brief rash of rumors regarding the airline's approach to the Apple tracking devices known as "AirTags". The tech is a compact, lightweight, battery powered device designed to attach to personal belongings to prevent their loss or theft wherever they travel. Passengers flying with the airline began to report that Lufthansa, in stereotypically Germanic adherence to regulation, had required them to remove batteries from the trackers before checking their baggage... defeating the purpose of a having a tracker to begin with.

Atmospheric Assestment System in Development for Venutian Exploration

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory completed the first of a battery of test flights for their prototype aerial robotic balloon. The system is hoped to help uncover atmospheric conditions on the planet Venus, deploying the balloon into the intense heat, pressure, and corrosive gases found in its environment. The balloon is a part of a concept that pairs it with an orbiting platform outside the atmosphere.

Utah's Intermountain Healthcare has begun small medical parcel delivery service with UAV courier company Zipline. Zipline will ramp up its Utah delivery system over the next 5 years to eventually provide service to more than 1 million people in the valley. The company notes that deliveries will be contingent upon a variety of flight conditions surrounding patient homes, since Zipline drones require the usual combination of open airspace, clear flight lines, and sufficient yard size for safe operation.

Crew 4 Undocking/Return Delayed Due To Weather

Potential For High Winds And Rainy Weather Near The Splashdown Zones

NASA and SpaceX now are targeting no earlier than 10:05 a.m. EDT Thursday, Oct. 13, for the agency’s Crew-4 undocking from the International Space Station to begin the return trip to Earth completing a nearly six-month science mission in orbit. Splashdown is targeted several hours later at 5:43 p.m. Thursday off the coast of Florida. Mission teams continue to monitor a cold front passing over Florida with the potential to bring high winds and rainy weather near the splashdown zones off the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Mission teams will continue to monitor splashdown and recovery conditions with another weather review around six hours prior to undocking.

Joint Airbus/Korean Aerospace Development Program Bears Fruit 

Airbus Helicopters has delivered the first Light Civil Helicopter to its first customer, Gloria Aviation. The helicopter (LCH), is the result of a joint effort between Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and Airbus Helicopters that began as a follow-on to their Light Armed Helicopter (LAH) development program from 2015. The Civil Helicopter completed its first prototype flight testing in late 2019, not long after its Armed sibling did the same in July of the same year.

NTSB Prelim: Piper PA-28-140

Airplane Departed From Runway 25 At XLL About One Minute Before The Accident

On September 28, 2022, about 1340 eastern daylight time, a Piper PA28-140, N7329F, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Allentown Queen City Municipal Airport (XLL), Allentown, Pennsylvania. The student pilot was fatally injured, and the flight instructor was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. Recorded Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data showed that the airplane departed from runway 25 at XLL about one minute before the accident.
