Instructor, Student Pilot From Averett University Uninjured In Off-Airport Landing
A long-distance training flight returning to Averett University in Danville, Virginia from Savannah, Georgia, experienced an autopilot malfunction almost immediately after departure and the pilots had to put the Piper Cherokee down in a field near Little Back River, South Carolina. Due to the marshy terrain and lack of access roads, the instructor and student pilot had to be hoisted from the field by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) but fortunately there were no injuries.

Blue Ring Pathfinder is the payload for NG-1, set to be the first launch for Blue Origin’s reusable New Glenn launch rocket. The payload is ready to be mated to the booster after the rocket’s hotfire test, and the spacecraft will launch from Blue Origin’s Launch Complex 36 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The launch will be New Glenn’s first National Security Space Launch certification flight.
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be returning to the Jacksonville Sea & Sky Air Show in 2025 after all, the city announced on December 10. The Sea & Sky show had been canceled when the Blues scheduled the Chennault International Air Show in Louisiana instead. However, that show fell through because of what was reported to be an inability to reach agreement on a venue.
Icelandair announced it has taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft, the A321LR, which signals the start of its fleet renewal program and makes it the newest Airbus operator. The aircraft is the first of four to be leased from SMBC Aviation Capital Limited, and the airline will also be getting 13 A321XLRs. Icelandair’s A321LR is configured with 187 seats in two classes – 22 Business class and 165 Economy class seats. The cabin features XL bins that provide 65% for stowage space compared to previous aircraft so boarding is more relaxed for both passengers and cabin crew.
