Airborne Oshkosh24 Day 5: Carbon Cub UL Flt Test, SnF25 Update, Affordable Expo

07.26.24: Checking Out An Ornithopter, Kay’s Speedster, Electric Aircraft Symposium, Night Air Show, Jack Pelton Pt5

One of the highlights of ANN CEO and Test Pilot, Jim Campbell’s 51st Oshkosh was the chance to fly the latest bird from CubCrafter, powered by a Rotax 916... and built to be tough and light. Even through some off airport landings on a recently plowed field, the Carbon Cub UL stood up in a great way... this may be their best effort yet. Even with Oshkosh in full swing, we can’t wait for the 51st rendition of the Sun ‘n Fun Aerospace Expo, where, once again, ANN will serve as their media partner. Big upgrades, numerous new features and some really inspired planning should make this event the best

Bob Hoover Academy Reveals CarbonCub Donation

Three Kit Airplanes Dedicated to Helping the Non-Profit Thrive

On day 2 of EAA’s Oshkosh AirVenture, the Bob Hoover Academy announced an extremely generous donation from the Thomas and Stacey Siebel Foundation: three CarbonCub kit planes. The Bob Hoover Academy, led by CEO Sean Tucker, is a non-profit organization based out of Salinas, California. Its primary goal is to inspire at-risk teens using aviation as a platform. In their 12 years of operation, they have given hundreds of adolescents a purpose and a passion for the industry. Several companies have stepped up to help fund the Academy’s mission. Game Composites, CubCrafters, and AOPA have all played a large role in its development and outreach. The newest donation, however,

Unleaded Aviation Fuel at AirVenture '24

Turns Out Getting Rid of Lead is Easier Said Than Done

Unleaded aviation fuels have emerged as a critical topic of discussion within the aviation industry, driven by the need for more environmentally friendly and health-conscious alternatives to traditional leaded aviation fuels. The transition to unleaded aviation fuels represents a significant shift in the aviation sector, with implications for aircraft performance, environmental impact, regulatory compliance, and industry sustainability. One of the primary motivations behind the development of unleaded aviation fuels is the desire to reduce the environmental footprint of aviation operations. Leaded aviation fuels, which contain tetraethyl lead, have been linked to air pollution and adverse

The Kiddy Pedal Plane Parade at AirVenture

Day 3 of the Airshow has a Wholesome Start

The Kiddy Pedal Plane Parade has been running annually at EAA’s Oshkosh AirVenture for the last five years. Its debut in 2018 was a last-second decision, but it managed to pull together a 31-person pedal plane crew. In 2019, the gathering pulled together a Guinness World Record attempt of 51 pedal planes. It is irresistibly wholesome, making it an AirVenture fan-favorite as it continues to grow. Hundreds of spectators take to the outskirts of Celebration Way to view the parade. It consists of a short loop over the painted compass, then a trip to Boeing Plaza for a group photo. For the time it occurs, the event is all “ooh”s to the pedal planes and “aww”s to their “pilot

They flew the Samson Sky earlier this year… and the data is yielding some exciting updates and modifications for the unique roadable airplane/flying car program. The Able Flight ceremony at Oshkosh is one of our favorite events, as a number of new pilots, who have proven themselves to be ‘hand-capable’ join our ranks. How aviation will power its convoluted future is a question that some of the best minds in aviation are trying to answer… and MagniX is competing for a share of what that will look like. Hartzell continues to build an incredible suite

UAS4STEM is an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) sanctioned competition for students aged 11 through graduating high school seniors. Teams compete throughout the year to make it to the championship at AirVenture. NBAA returned to the grind of angling for fresh blood in the industry, urging congress to implement some of the high-minded plans enclosed in their recent FAA reauthorization legislation. Every so often the industry seems to remember the impending wave of retirements, which is followed by some anxious glances at the unimpressively slim pilot production pipelin

ANN's Daily Aero-Linx (07.26.24)

Aero Linx: Cardinal Flyers The Cardinal Flyers Online Web site was created and is maintained by me, Keith Peterson. My wife Debbie and I have owned a 1976 RG since 1985. With my mechanical engineering background I naturally enjoy digging into the Cardinal and finding out what to look for and what to do when you find it. The web site came about through the urging of a number of Cardinal owners who wished for a central location for information about the Cardinal. The goal has always been to capture and retain the accumulated wisdom of the Cardinal Owning population in a way that helps most of us learn and helps all of us remember.

“I’ve seen it in the faces of kids I’ve flown, as they understand perhaps for the first time that these dreams are possible for them. Young Eagles is a superb platform to bring that message to even more young people, and I’m eager to continue.” Source: That's part of a statement by the new chairman for the Young Eagles Program, NFL All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham. Graham's announcement was made early on at AirVenture, but he more visibly took the stage on July 25th, at The Gathering, EAA's yearly fundraiser.
