Spirit Airlines has finally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. This follows a series of mounting losses, with the recent failed JetBlue merger deal being the cherry on top. The low-cost carrier has had two major deals fall through in the last couple of years. In 2022, Spirit and Frontier announced a plan to merge. However, only two months after the reveal, JetBlue sweetened the deal with a $3.8 billion offer. A Jewish flight attendant, Roey Segev, recently filed a lawsuit against Delta Airlines over claims of religious discrimination. Segev has reported several incidents to the carrier to no avail. Boeing Plays Scrooge Just Days Before Christmas

2,200 Layoffs In WA, 220 In SC

Boeing will lay off 2,199 workers in Washington state and another 220 in South Carolina on December 20. Employees in Oregon and Missouri will also be impacted but those numbers were not shared. The layoffs are part of Boeing’s plan to cut about 10% of its global workforce, or about 17,000 jobs, in an effort to stem the company’s financial bleeding as it tries to regain its footing.

Starship Completes Successful Sixth Flight Test

Super Heavy Booster And Ship Perform As Planned

SpaceX’s Starship completed its sixth test flight on November 19 and everything went as planned with the Super Heavy booster and Starship. The test flight was performed as Super Heavy lifted off the pad with all 33 Raptor engines powering it and Starship to a nominal ascent. Following the stage separation, the booster performed a normal boostback burn to return to the launch site.

Qantas And CAE Open New Sydney Training Center

Partnered On Purpose-Built Facility To Train Qantas And Jetstar Pilots

Qantas Group and CAE jointly announced the opening of a new state-of-the-art pilot training facility in St. Peters near the Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (IATA: SYD, ICAO: YSSY) in Australia. The facility was developed by a partnership between Qantas and CAE, and is now home to five full-flight simulators, three fixed-training devices, and ten classrooms. Additional batches of equipment will be delivered in the coming months and years, including Australia’s first Airbus A350 simulators to train Qantas pilots on the ultra-long haul Project Sunrise flights.

Diamond Aircraft sealed a contract with Abu Dhabi’s Project Aviation Flight School for two DA40 and one DA42 aircraft, the company announced at the recent Air Expo Abu Dhabi 2024. The Diamond DA40 single-engine and the twin-engine DA42 are growing in popularity in the UAE and wider Middle East region and are used worldwide by flight schools to train the next generation of pilots. The diesel engine-powered aircraft feature Garmin glass cockpit avionics with the efficiency and sustainability of using jet fuel.

Terminal Arrival Area (TAA) The TAA is controlled airspace established in conjunction with the Standard or Modified T and I RNAV approach configurations.
