Skydive Perris to See History as 90yo Skydiver Makes 9 B-Day Jumps

Pat Moore's upcoming November 20 jump is on the way! Just over a week remains until the 90-year-old-to-be jumps in support of the International Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame. Jumping at Skydive Perris, Perris, California, the nonagenarian will make a series of 9 skydives, one for each decade of a life well-lived. Support can be donated through merchandise purchases, museum donations, or by jumpers making their own 9-way formation to help keep the legends of the sport alive. A portion of funds from all activities will go towards continuing their mission in preserving the legacy of skydiving for generations to come. 

After A Two Year Interruption, DSAS Comes Back To Life

The 2021 DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase, delayed multiple times by COVID concerns, finally took place this past weekend at the Deland Municipal Airport. Sporadic weather caused issues throughout portions of each day, but the flying community nevertheless showed up in reasonable numbers following all the trauma of 2020. Vendor numbers were down a mite, and a few major players were notable in their absence -- including Rans, Zenith, Vans and a few more. Those that attended, though, noted modest dedicated crowds that seemed ready to do business... though the outcome of that will take weeks to audit. 

Mobile AirMed Isolation Capsule STC Approved

Norwegian company EpiGuard, in conjunction with FAI Air Ambulance, has received an STC for their EpiShuttle for CL-600 aircraft. The inclusion of the isolation chamber was completed on a Bombardier Challenger 604 equipped with a Spectrum Aeromed MedBase with a fixed adaptation of the Spectrum Cargo Stretcher. FAI felt it necessary to obtain the STC because the combined system was no longer considered loose equipment, like other mobile medical gear. Equal parts modern transparent isolation bubble and sci-fi escape capsule, the EpiShuttle is an interesting alternative to cumbersome contagion and environmental separation.

Recycles Waste Feedstock From Airport Vendors

Dallas Fort Worth International has created the first circular, sustainable economy for sustainable aviation fuel, working with AvFuel and Neste. The initial SAF deliveries began in tandem with their implementation of a pilot project in circularity that recovers raw feedstock for the fuels from the airport premises. The program will attempt to collect used cooking oil from the 200 plus concessionaires who prepare and serve food to airport customers, where Neste will convert the waste into renewable SAF to replace petroleum-based fuels in aviation.

Continues Development of Mode 5 Level 2B Micro IFF Receiver

UAvionix and R Cubed Engineering Team has completed its successful participation in Joint DoD and NATO training event Bold Quest 2021, held at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. The company assisted in the joint operation by conducting over 13 hours of flight mission time in support of the Mode 5 IFF Mission, with their DoD AIMS Certified RT-2087/ZPX-B micro IFF receiver. Continued testing of Mode 5 Level 2B, a rough military analogue to civilian ADS-B services, has been in development as the DoD paves the way forward to next-gen services. 

Universal InSight Integrated Flight Deck Available

Southeast Aerospace (SEA) is working on an upcoming Hawker 800 STC with Universal Avionics in the hopes of offering a fully integrated InSight EFIS flight deck. The upgrade will include optional, but recommended datacom capability to meet FANS 1/A and CPDLC requirements. The Mid-Continent MD 302 SAM standby instrument is included as replacement for existing ones or older ESI's. The NTSB has successfully completed the recovery of TransAir flight 810 this past week… They retrieved  the remains of the Boeing 737-200 that ditched after the flight crew reported anomalies in both engines shortly after takeoff from Honolulu on July 2, 2021. The only occupants of the aircraft, the two pilots, survived. After the ditching, the majority of the plane’s wreckage came to rest about 400 feet deep. Source: Nancy Gruttman-Tyler, a retired skydiver present when, ten years ago, Skydiver Pat Moore completed an accomplishment for his 80th birthday, raising $20,000 for the Skydiving museum with Team80. For that 2011 attempt, Team80 supported Moore with 50 riggers, cameramen, a pilot, and medical personnel on standby. A constant stream of parachute packing and aircraft prep took place over the course of 6 ½ hours, until he made his 81st jump with a celebratory American flag.
