Airborne 11.10.21: Embraer Energia, Pilots v Vaccines, Mars Ketchup?

Embraer announced its new family of sustainable concept aircraft as it seeks to prepare for industry, world, and company goals of decreasing carbon emissions. The move will help set the stage for Embraer’s target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The first, ready by 2030, is the Energia Hybrid E9-HE, a 9-seater aircraft with hybrid electric propulsion, rear-mounted engines, and a 90% CO2 emissions reduction. The second, ready by 2035, is its battery powered sibling, the Energia Electric E9-FE. The 9-seat FE will emit zero CO2 emissions and be driven by aft contra-rotating propellers. Endeavor Touches Down Off Florida Coast

NASA's Crew-2 astronauts splashed down safely in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Florida after completing the agency's second long-duration commercial crew mission to the ISS. The international crew spent a record 199 days in orbit, beating their Crew-1 predecessor's previous NASA record of 168 days. The international crew consisted of Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur of NASA, Akihiko Hoshide of JAXA, and Thomas Pesquet of the ESA. The team returned aboard their Crew Dragon spacecraft, the Endeavour, in a parachute-assisted touchdown. The craft was quickly recovered by SpaceX recovery vessels, to return the astronauts to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

United States Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg released his administration’s newest Climate Action Plan at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. Geared towards cementing a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions goal from the U.S. aviation sector by 2050, he promises the plan can combat climate change while growing the economy and creating skilled, high-paying employment for workers in America. AD 2021-21-09 Retains The Requirements Of AD 2005-05-18, Revises The Applicability To Include Additional Airplanes

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2005-05-18, which applied to certain The Boeing Company Model 737-600, -700, -700C, -800, and -900 series airplanes. AD 2005-05-18 required repetitive inspections for cracking of the webs of the aft pressure bulkhead at a certain body station, and corrective action if necessary. This AD was prompted by cracking found in that inspection area on airplanes not identified in the applicability of AD 2005-05-18. This AD retains the requirements of AD 2005-05-18, revises the applicability to include additional airplanes, and adds an inspection for existing repairs on the newly added airplan
