Whether these operations were called “haulin’ the midnight mail” or “freight dogging” they were conducted pretty much in all weather. The pilots would pound their way through the early darkness of dusk, land at the major cargo hub, conk out in the crew lounge for a few hours of sleep and then scurry back to their aircraft and fly until dawn.

Last April's ill-advised TV stunt, under the PR guise of a Red Bull event, embarrassed the GA world to the extreme... and now the NTSB has had a few things to say about it... a very few things to say. The NTSB concluded that, "The accident airplane was part of an exhibition event, the goal of which was for two pilots to fly two similarly equipped airplanes in a vertical dive, after which they would simultaneously bail out and transfer to the other airplane. From 2018 (YouTube Version): Aero-News Talks With The Airplane's Builder

One of the many unique airplanes at AirVenture 2018 was a 1/3-scale B-17 bomber built by Jack Bally, who talked about the 17-year project with Aero-News at the show last summer.
