Cosmonaut’s Spacesuit Malfunctions

Spacewalks are regular occurrences on the ISS. Astronauts and cosmonauts routinely exit the orbiting behemoth to conduct equipment upgrades, perform routine maintenance and set up and monitor scientific experiments. More than 250 spacewalks have been conducted since the station entered service about two decades ago, and they typically go off without a hitch—but not this time.

The Philippines is looking to buy CH-47 Chinook helicopters from the United States. The Asian island nation’s interest in Boeing’s twin-rotor workhorse follows the cancellation of a 12.7-billion-peso ($228-million) deal that would have seen the Philippine military acquire 16 Russian Mi-17 heavy-lift helicopters.

Drone Delivers Contraband to Prison

Mr. Bryant LeRay Henderson was arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly flying a drone into a federal prison for purpose of delivering drugs and electronic devices to inmates. If convicted, Henderson faces up to 45-years in prison.

Don’t Fear the Civilian Reaper

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, the California-based energy and defense concern, has undertaken testing of Pratt and Whitney’s PT6 E power-plant on its MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA). The tests, which consisted of multiple full-power runs, were performed at General Atomics’s Desert Horizon flight operations facility in El Mirage, Calif. The MQ-9B SkyGuardian derives of the combat-proven MQ-9 Reaper in use with the United States Air Force, Navy, and numerous NATO militaries. SkyGuardian—unlike its warfighter sibling—was developed in accordance with EASA regulations for purpose of boosting European sales.

United, Delta, and JetBlue Also to Curb Flight Operations

 American Airlines has announced it will slash 16%—some 31,000 flights—from its November 2022 schedule. The largest cuts will pare down the number of flights between Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), and Boston (BOS) and Philadelphia (PHL). In addition, American intends to eliminate 109 Boston-to-Philly, and 42 Boston-to-Miami flights.

ADS-B Data Terminated In A Remote Area Populated With Fields Used For Agricultural Work

On August 9, 2022, about 1106 pacific daylight time, a Sonex Aircraft Waiex airplane, N51YX, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Maxwell, California. The pilot sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A preliminary review of Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) data showed that the airplane departed runway 13 at the Colusa County Airport (O08), Colusa, California, about 1027.

Autoland Approach An autoland system aids by providing control of aircraft systems during a precision instrument approach to at least decision altitude and possibly all the way to touchdown, as well as in some cases, through the landing rollout.
