Air France Pilots Suspended After In-Flight Brawl

Belying the French reputation for civility and refinement, two Air France pilots have been suspended in the wake of an in-flight brawl that saw the pair square-off across the cockpit of an A320 during a June 2022 flight from Geneva to Paris. The fisticuffs reportedly ensued the first officer’s refusal to comply with instructions issued by the flight’s captain.

Mesa Pilots to Receive Substantial Pay Hike

The Airline Pilots Association International (ALPA) has announced that Mesa Airlines, the Phoenix-based Part 121 carrier doing business as American Eagle and United Express, is making ready to raise its pilots’ salaries. Henceforth, the airline will pay its first officers and captains starting rates of $100 and $150-per-hour respectively. Mesa is the first regional airline to compensate its first officers so generously—surpassing a $90-per-hour mark set by American Airlines in June 2022.

Inaugural Artemis Launch Scrubbed

Fuel Leak Delays Test Flight of SLS and Orion

The inaugural launch of Project Artemus, NASA’s 21st Century lunar exploration program, was scrubbed when technicians discovered a fuel leak and a possible crack in the enormous SLS rocket’s core-stage. A revised Artemis I launch date has yet to be formally announced. NASA has backup launch windows on 02 and 05 September, but whether or not engineers identify the cause of the leak and fix such prior to those dates remains to be seen.

The C-47 Texas Zephyr is scheduled to arrive at its home base hangar, the Highland Lakes Squadron in Burnet, TX, this September 5th. The finishing touches on the aircraft are being made in Brady, TX where the aircraft has undergone a massive restoration since 2019 when it was donated to the CAF by Brady resident, Karl Ritter. Supply chain issues and labor shortages caused by COVID-19 have caused lengthy delays. Members of the Highland Lakes Squadron are elated to finally bring the C-47 home. Structural Steel Deliveries Herald New Construction

Between 04 and 07 August 2022, nine truck-loads totaling 346,920-pounds of structural steel were delivered to the site of a planned exhibition hall which, when complete, will supplement the facilitits of the USAF's Flight Test Museum on California's Edwards Air Force Base. The steel, which will be used to frame the new structure, was purchased with monies generously provided by the Flight Test Museum Foundation’s donors.

NTSB Prelim: Goddard Dick Sim Bensen B-8M

Shortly After Turning To Final Approach, He Heard A “Bang” And Felt A Loss Of Engine Power

On August 13, 2022, about 1248 Pacific daylight time, a Dick Sim Goddard Benson B-8M gyroplane, N532KB, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident in Corona, California. The sport pilot sustained minor injuries. The gyroplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that, during the first flight of the day he remained in the airport traffic pattern. Shortly after turning to final approach, he heard a “bang” and felt a loss of engine power.

Nonapproach Control Tower Authorizes aircraft to land or takeoff at the airport controlled by the tower or to transit the Class D airspace. The primary function of a nonapproach control tower is the sequencing of aircraft in the traffic pattern and on the landing area. Nonapproach control towers also separate aircraft operating under instrument  flight rules clearances from approach controls and centers. They provide ground control services to aircraft, vehicles, personnel, and equipment on the airport movement area.
