METARmaps Introduces New Features For 2022

We checked in with Mr. Richard Freilich at EAA AirVenture 2022, and he shared with us that new for this year in version 4.0 of METARmaps are the following features: off-panel processing (the work is being done in the cloud) which will facilitate easier over-the-air (OTA) updates and feature enhancements to the map, geo-dimming (real-time sunrise brightening or sunset dimming), in addition to the lightning indications (via LED flicker), general wind, and sustained wind-gust information (via LED pulse at programmed rates) that was previously available.

STADIA Skips FAA For GA-With Laser Altimeter

Skeeter Enterprise’s Laser Altimeter Ready For Showtime

On site at EAA AirVenture 2022, we bumped into Mr. Sean Sherman of Skeeter Enterprises tent in the South 40 (Vintage side of the house) to ask about the little white boxes attached to the mock strut which served as his prop display. Mr. Sherman confirmed that the STADIA model is a laser altimeter that was designed and developed specifically with General Aviation in mind, and that this model is intended for land-based aircraft, with a water-landing model currently in the works. Once turned on, the STADIA is in standby mode, and kicks in at 130ft (vertical detection), and at 100ft its truly awake to within 2 to 3 inches, which is significant
