STADIA Skips FAA For GA-With Laser Altimeter

Skeeter Enterprise’s Laser Altimeter Ready For Showtime

On site at EAA AirVenture 2022, we bumped into Mr. Sean Sherman of Skeeter Enterprises tent in the South 40 (Vintage side of the house) to ask about the little white boxes attached to the mock strut which served as his prop display.

Mr. Sherman confirmed that the STADIA model is a laser altimeter that was designed and developed specifically with General Aviation in mind, and that this model is intended for land-based aircraft, with a water-landing model currently in the works. Once turned on, the STADIA is in standby mode, and kicks in at 130ft (vertical detection), and at 100ft its truly awake to within 2 to 3 inches, which is significantly better than the regulatory requirement of +/- 50 feet!

The STADIA requires an app for Android or Apple installed on your mobile device, and after a one-time Bluetooth pairing, STADIA automatically connects to your mobile device when both are powered on. On the topic of power, the device has an internal rechargeable battery that permits passthrough power (, with 15 hours standby and 10 hours active.

Presently, the unit provides audio tones based on the parameters you configured in the app, however, the next firmware update will provide voice alerts so you’ll feel as if you’re an airline pilot!

Firmware updates to the device are over the air (OTA) and pushed from your mobile device at the next available opportunity.

The STADIA uses commercial off the shelf components and a circuit board which Skeeter Enterprises designed and manufactured. In terms of service options, the device comes with a 6-month warranty, and if you experience any difficulties outside of that, simply send the unit in for evaluation/repair, and at most you’ll only pay for labor and the component.

The STADIA model is priced at $565 including the mounting option (for high-wing and low-wing aircraft) at no additional cost, no software subscription service required.

You can place your order online with AircraftSpruce and specify your aircraft at the time of order, so you receive the appropriate mount!
