The Waiver Application Was Developed In Part With Skydio

Drones are the N.C. Department of Transportation’s newest tool in maintaining the safety of the state’s bridges and other infrastructure. The Federal Aviation Administration has approved a waiver that allows NCDOT to operate Unmanned Aircraft Systems beyond visual line of sight while conducting bridge inspections. This approval is part of North Carolina’s participation in the FAA UAS Integration Pilot Program, which is focused on testing and enabling new innovative uses of drone technology.

2019 Crash Again Highlights Importance Of Stall Warning Systems 

In its investigation report (A19O0089) released this week, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) identified that a loss of power and subsequent aerodynamic stall led to a collision with terrain near Hawk Lake, Ontario in 2019. On 11 July 2019, a float-equipped de Havilland Beaver aircraft (DHC-2), operated by Hawk Air as an air taxi (Canadian Aviation Regulations Subpart 703), departed from the Hawk Junction Water Aerodrome, Ontario. On September 27, 2020, at 0703 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna T182T airplane, N157RC, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Santa Barbara, California. The pilot, the sole occupant, was fatally injured. The airplane was operated by the pilot as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal cross-country flight. The flight departed Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA), Santa Barbara, California, for a crosscountry flight to  the Truckee-Tahoe Airport (TRK), Truckee, California.
