EAA: FAA Introduces Further Relief Through SFAR Extension

EAA Pushed For This Relief

EAA has been touting the recent messaging from the FAA in regards to much needed extensions of an SFAR that resulted (rightfully) out of concerns over the industry's ability to keep up with various regulatory requirements during the pandemic. Accordingly; the FAA published a second extension of Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) 118, a collection of rule modifications that provide some relief to pilots from training, checking, and currency requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic. G700 Fleet Adds Fourth Test Aircraft

Together, The Four Flight-Test Aircraft Have Flown More Than 600 Hours

The fourth Gulfstream G700 test aircraft has taken flight, further expanding the already advanced certification program for Gulfstream's new flagship. The fourth G700 took off Friday and flew for 1 hour and 56 minutes. It reached an altitude of 41,000 feet and a speed of Mach 0.89. Its testing regimen will include avionics, the environmental control system, mechanical systems, electrical power and hydraulics. “This is the fourth first flight we’ve accomplished within just eight months, and that is a truly impressive feat,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream.

Air Station Barbers Point C-130 Hercules Aircrew Located The Kayakers

An extended search for missing Hawaiian kayakers, that was beginning to look doubtful, has turned out to have a far more positive resolution. The Coast Guard HAS found two overdue kayakers off Punalu’u Beach, Thursday. An Air Station Barbers Point C-130 Hercules aircrew located the kayakers and air dropped a message block to make contact. The kayakers confirmed they did not need Coast Guard assistance and were not in any distress. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu watchstanders received a report at 6:38 p.m., Wednesday, from a good Samaritan stating she saw the kayakers depart earlier in the day and had not returned though it was sunset.

Each Pilot Heard A Loud "Bang"

On September 6, 2020, about 0900 eastern daylight time, a Robinson R22 Mariner helicopter, N194HC, was involved in an accident at Page Field (FMY), Fort Myers, Florida. The flight instructor and pilot receiving instruction were not injured. The instructional flight was conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Both pilots submitted written statements, and their versions of events were consistent throughout. The preflight and engine-start procedures were completed by the checklist with no anomalies noted. As the engine was accelerated to near its operating rpm, each pilot heard a loud "bang."
