Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration to Be Celebrated

East Coast Chapter Celebrates the 81st Anniversary of the Unit

The United States Air Force Memorial will commemorate the 2022 Tuskegee Airmen Commemoration Day on the 81st Anniversary of the Airmen by holding a wreath-laying ceremony on Thursday, March 24. The accomplishments of the Tuskegee unit are recognized on the 4th Thursday of each March. This year, the East Coast Chapter Tuskegee Airmen will celebrate the group as well as acknowledge the national service of Brigadier General Charles McGee and General Colin Powell.

Japan Aerospace Corp. Selects DART Aero for Certification Process

DART Aerospace has been selected to assist in the certification for a new Fire Attack system for the 5-bladed version of the license-produced H145. Japan Aerospace Corporation and Kawasaki Heavy Industries will assist in the joint effort to finalize the installation of the firefighting equipment on the Japanese-produced H145. DART will complete the modifications on Kawasaki's version of the helicopter, adding their 311GII system with its attendant equipment.

Felt Ground Contact And “Forcefully Slammed The Collective To The Floor”

On March 6, 2022, at 2359 eastern standard time, a Eurocopter Deutschland GMBH, MBB-BK 117-C-2 helicopter, N29VA, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at the Virginia Highlands Airport (VJI), Abingdon, Virginia. The pilot sustained serious injuries and the two flight paramedics were not injured. The helicopter was operated by the Virginia Department of State Police as a public state aircraft.

AD 2022-07-03 Requires Adding A Permanent Hours Time-In-Service (TIS) Penalty

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Bell Textron Inc., Model 412, 412EP, and 412CF helicopters. This AD was prompted by evaluation results showing flight loads that impact the collective lever fatigue life. This AD requires adding a permanent hours time-in-service (TIS) penalty for certain collective levers and prohibits installing those collective levers unless the permanent hours TIS penalty has been added. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective April 27, 2022.
