Billy Nolen to Head Agency After Dickson's Departure, With Assistance from Bradley Mims

The FAA has announced an interim administrator following the departure of Steve Dickson in the coming days, naming Billy Nolen for the role. As Nolen steps up to the plate, deputy administrator Bradley Mims will lighten his load a bit and focus on the FAA's workforce and the nation's airports. Nolen is a long-time aviation safety professional, former airline captain, and has been operating as an associate administrator at the FAA since January.

The Aircraft Electronics Association has announced its 2022 award winners, with James Temple of Temple Electronics and Garmin as Member and Associate Member of the Year. The industry awards were presented during the opening session of the 65th annual AEA Convention & Trade Show, kicking off the biggest week of the year for aircraft avionics and cockpit equipment releases. Members of the AEA voted James Temple in for his work in the industry with his company, Temple Electronics.

Manufacturing Facility Underway, 1st Production Aircraft to Begin Soon

Joby has picked itself up and dusted off, restarting flight testing following the crash of an uncrewed test aircraft last month. Joby has announced that the second preproduction prototype aircraft has resumed flight testing at the company's first manufacturing facility in Marina, California. The company's flight testing was paused following the crash of their first prototype while undergoing uncrewed evaluation, the cause of which remains under investigation by the NTSB, the FAA, and the company's review board.

SpaceX, Grumman Each Net 6 More Launches, Supporting the ISS Through 2026

NASA has ordered 12 more missions under its Commercial Resupply Services-2 contracts with a combination of Northrop Grumman and SpaceX. The CRS-2 contract will serve as the primary resupply method to the International Space Station through 2026, giving some peace of mind to those who worried that recent geopolitical developments could possibly have imperiled the station. The deal will see 12 additional supply flights to the station, 6 for both contractors.

5 New Instruments Released at AEA 2022

Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics added to their Flex line of 2-inch digital instrumentation products, unveiling 5 new units at the annual AEA International Convention and Trade Show. The Flex series now includes digital Counter Drum Encoding Altimeters, Airspeed Indicators, GPS Clocks, Battery ACUs, and Attitude Indicators, in addition to a range of previous releases. The new drum encoding altimeter is certified to 55,000 feet AGL with user-selectable functions for VSI, 6-second vertical trend, altitude target, approach minimums alerts, and barometric settings.

As The Pilot Attempted To Increase The Throttle Input, The Engine Did Not Respond

On March 8, 2022, at 1417 mountain standard time, a Cessna P210N airplane, N210GE, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Englewood, Colorado. The pilot and flight instructor both sustained minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that the flight was cleared for an instrument approach as they neared the intended destination airport. The initial portion of the approach was uneventful. After contacting the control tower, the controller requested that they sidestep to the parallel runway for landing.
