The Canadian Owners and Pilots Association has disclosed that the Cedars airport of Montreal will be closed on May 22, 2022. Aircraft owners at the property had been aware of issues with the lease held by the airport and flight school operator, Laurentide Aviation, with its renewal this spring up in the air. Development of the airport land has always been an increasing temptation for the property owner, and with values in the area skyrocketing over the past 2 years, the owner feels it's time to shut things down.

Alaska Airlines and its regional partner, Horizon Air, have launched an effort to establish a flight school of their own in the Redmond, Oregon area: the Ascend Pilot Academy. The new program is launched with Hillsboro Aero Academy as an effort to guarantee a steady pipeline of incoming professional pilots as the looming shortage of ATP-qualified personnel approaches. The academy will register and train up to 250 students per year, with support for cadets ranging from low-interest financial aid, a $25,000 stipend to cover their commercial pilot license, mentorship, and the requisite conditional job offer at Horizon Air that promises a chance to fly with Alaska as their logbook is padded out.

The Robinson R44 helicopter has been featured at the Heli-Expo 2022 Helicopter Institute booth, sporting a newly released glass panel setup. The new flight deck is the group effort of BendixKing in Phoenix, Arizona, Becker Avionics in Miramar Florida, and AvPanels of Fort Worth, Texas. SRT Helicopters received a Test Pilot Services Contract for a mystery military customer in which the firm will fully flight test and evaluate the Multi Mission Airbus 565 Panther Anti-Submarine helicopter. The Panther is a relatively new addition to the Airbus military helicopter collection, geared towards navy and coast guard customers around the world as a single platform, do-all aircraft.

The Patrouille de France performed in April at Sun 'n Fun, and then toured a large portion of the U.S. during the month of April. In an interview with ANN Editor in Chief Jim Campbell, Lead Solo Pilot Capt. Aubert said that the team trained all winter for the 2017 demonstration to match with U.S. regulations for military team performances at air shows. The logistics were challenging, but he said that at each location in the U.S., the team had support personnel waiting for them to help facilitate their performances.

On February 1, 2022, about 1006 eastern standard time, a Cessna 310R airplane, N622QT, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Danville, Virginia. The commercial pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated by Sol Aerial Surveys as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 aerial surveying flight. The pilot had previously flown aerial surveying in the same make and model of the accident airplane. The accident flight was his first solo aerial surveying flight for the company following several observation flights with the company’s owner.
