CSAF Names Pedro 11 Crews For NAA’s Mackay Trophy

Award Honors Most Meritorious Flight For Life-Saving Mission

The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) announced that Pedro 11 Flight from the 38th and 41st Rescue Squadron will receive the 2023 Mackay Trophy for the “Most Meritorious Flight” of the year in military aviation. The Mackay Army Aviation Cup was commissioned in 1911 by Clarence H. Mackay to recognize the achievement among military aviators. Today, the U.S. Air Force and the NAA continue to present the trophy.

The federal district court of Ohio recently dismissed a counterclaim for false advertising brought against NetJets Aviation by former customer Stephen Perlman. This case opened in 2018 when NetJets filed a lawsuit seeking to recover $2.1 million in unpaid management fees from Perlman and his bankrupt entity RS Air.

Mayman Aerospace announced the successful demonstraion of flight tests of its RAZOR VTOL test bed vehicle at a military facility in Southern California. The RAZOR VTOL incorporates the same propulsion, engine gimbaling, thrust vectoring, and flight control technologies as the RAZOR P100. Mayman is supported by both the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the Edge Group/SDF based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Some College Grads Can Skip FAA Air Traffic Control Academy

Programs Provide Same Curriculum And Advanced Tech

The FAA announced that graduates of two college air traffic control programs may bypass the training academy typically required to be sufficiently trained as a controller. The FAA has been struggling with a shortage of air traffic controllers for some years, causing flight delays and controller burnout. Many controllers have been forced to work mandatory six-day weeks with overtime and the resulting controller fatigue has been a factor in numerous runway incursions and other incidents.

Toyota Announces $500 Million Joby Investment

Aids Certification and Production of Joby’s Electric Air Taxi

Toyota Motor Corporation has confirmed plans to invest an additional $500 million in Joby Aviation to aid in the certification and production of electric air taxis. The payment will be split in half, with the first made later this year and the second sometime in 2025. Toyota owns 10% of the company’s shares, making it the largest external Joby shareholder and second largest general shareholder.

Pilot’s Routine Performance Of High-Speed Flyovers And Low-Altitude Aerobatics Was Indicative Of High-Risk Behavior

Analysis: According to witnesses, the pilot took off and performed a 180° descending turn back toward the airport. He then flew a high-speed, low altitude pass along the runway before pulling up and descending into the trees. One witness reported that the airplane appeared to enter a roll as it descended into the trees near the end of the runway. Postaccident examination of the airframe and engine revealed no evidence of a preimpact mechanical malfunction or failure that would have precluded normal operation.
