As the airshow at Arlington starts today, it gives us a chance
to learn a lot and to meet some interesting people. In the
main exhibit tent, at booth 82, you can find the friendly
folks at Seattle Avionics. They've offered us, and you, a free
demonstration of Voyager 2.5, their newest flight planning
program.
This next story reminds us of flying our GA aircraft into very
remote airfields here in the US -- those strips where you have to
buzz the field once before you land to ensure the wildlife knows
you're coming.
AOPA Warns Pilots Against Fanning Flames Of Public Opinion
It doesn't take much to ignite public fears about terrorism
these days, and all too often those fears seem to center around
general aviation. So when two small airplanes were stolen and taken
for joyrides in recent weeks, it garnered a lot of negative
attention from the general media, the public, and the politicians.
That's why AOPA is urging all pilots to be more vigilant than ever
about security -- especially when it comes to the airplanes
they fly.
Camp David Incursion Prompts Review Of Restricted Airspace
Will the recent rash of restricted airspace incursions by GA
aircraft over the past two months spur an expansion of the
Washington ADIZ? One Bush administration official says, "yes."
Cheers And Job Well Done From Europe On Deep Impact Mission
Success
Leaders of the nation's richest and most powerful nations may be
having some trouble getting along at the G8 Summit in Europe this
week, but the same certainly can't be said about their space
agencies.

Aircraft In Latest Airspace Violation Has A Record
The Cessna 172R that violated restricted airspace over Camp
David last weekend has a history -- at least two previous
incursions into places GA pilots shouldn't go.
Prince William Ended Up Diverted Back To Christchurch
Britain's Prince William, making his first unaccompanied trip
overseas, didn't quite make it to his destination Tuesday... after
his royal aircraft tried twice to land in the New Zealand town of
Invercargill. The prince was reportedly quite calm -- perhaps the
most calm of anyone connected to the story.
The hyper-speed demise of NASA's Deep Impact probe generated an
immense flash of light, which provided an excellent light source
for the two cameras on the Deep Impact mothership. Deep Impact
scientists theorize the 820-pound impactor vaporized deep below the
comet's surface when the two collided at 0152 July 4, at a speed of
about 10 kilometers per second (6.3 miles per second or 23,000
miles per hour).
The Northwest Regional Northwest Experimental Aircraft
Association Fly-In starts Wednesday with once-in-a-lifetime
opportunities for the public. The FAA's very own DC-3 is scheduled
to be on display, and volunteers, food, parking and everything else
is ready to go.
Martin-Baker Aircraft Co. Ltd. has been competitively selected
to build new ejection seats for each of 509 T-38 Talon advanced jet
trainers in service with the US Air Force Air Education and
Training Command. The seats are designed to significantly improve
the life saving capability of the T-38 escape system.
Aero-Views by Kevin R.C. "Hognose" O'Brien
We get a lot of weird press releases at Aero-News. Sometimes we
get the skinny on new planes, or new technology, or industry movers
and shakers who are moving (usually up: no one issues a press
release when he's booted downstairs) and shaking.

The good folks at Sporty's have introduced yet another DVD.
So You Want to Fly Seaplanes is Sporty's latest,
with great video footage and clear instructions to shed some
light on the subject for land based pilots.
As those of us in the piston end of things are only vaguely
aware, jets measure fuel less often in gallons than in pounds. An
Air Force press release from June 30th shows an F-16 Viper breaking
off after taking the billionth pound of fuel.
The NASA ER-2 airplane flew its first science mission as part of
the Tropical Cloud Systems and Processes (TCSP) program on the

operations at Juan Santa Maria Airport in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Eaton Corporation's aerospace business has been awarded a
five-year extension by Continental Airlines to a 10-year cost per

"It's up to the members to decide.
There are some good things in these contracts, but the teams cannot
recommend contracts that have benefit
