Two US Navy F/A-18 aircraft collided in mid-air during a Monday
training session, according to military officials. The fates of the
crews involved were not immediately known.
The Lancair Company, manufacturers of the Columbia line of
certified aircraft, announced Monday that it is formally changing
its name to Columbia Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation (CAM)
effective immediately.
Armed with its own database on air ambulance mishaps and spurred
by safety "experts" who say "someone needs to be uncomfortable,"
USA Today Monday published an extensive report on the safety of
medical helicopter flights. The report, which ran across three
pages of the national publication, suggests none of the safety
improvements made in the airline industry have made it into the
highly-lucrative air ambulance business.

When search teams in Equatorial Guinea finally came upon the
wreckage, their worst fears were confirmed: At least 55 people
aboard an Equatair-owned Antonov AN-32 were killed Saturday when
the aircraft went down on a flight from Malabo to Bata.

NASA's international partners in the International Space Station
are growing anxious about progress on the station's construction as
the space shuttle program continues to struggle with technical
problems and the resulting delays.

Town Hall Meetings
General aviation pilots in the Midwest last week said that while
additional punishment for violating Washington, DC's restricted
airspace (ADIZ) is probably necessary, the sanctions proposed in
some congressional legislation are way too tough. These pilots also
expressed extreme disappointment over the pending roadblocks to
flight service station modernization.
Lockheed-Martin Re-Evaluating ERJ 145 For Aerial Common Sensor
Program
It was a big, big deal for Brazilian-based Embraer -- and for
Florida. When the Army announced the ERJ-145 had been selected as
the flying platform for the new Aerial Common Sensor program, the
manufacturer broke ground on a new facility at Jacksonville's Cecil
Field. Governor Jeb Bush attended, all a-giggle about the prospect
of a huge aerospace plant at the former Navy base.
CubCrafters tells ANN that the first flight of its newest
airplane, SPORT CUB, has just taken place. All first flight goals
were achieved during a nearly one hour flight at CubCrafters
company headquarters.

commander of the Space Shuttle's STS-114 mission: "My crew will
remain in quarantine for the near future, maintaining our

The teenagers along for the ride in the aircraft allegedly taken

Air Force Pilot Trainees, NCO Face The Music In Cheating
Scandals
The Air Force dealt harshly with two cheating scandals this
week. One involved officers cheating on academic quizzes in pilot
training, and the other involved an NCO illegally distributing
materials for enlisted promotion exams.
The National Transportation Safety Board announced Friday that
catastrophic internal engine failure caused the crash of a
Sacramento County Sheriff's Department helicopter last
Wednesday.
