F-100C Makes Last Journey As It's Towed To Georgia Museum
It's not easy being Dennis Oliver. The man in charge of
restoration at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, GA, not
only has to know all the nuances of military symbology, paint
mixtures and anti-aging tricks. He also has to know how to get an
F-100C onto the road and into the museum without dinging it.
In a recent Aero-Views, "Ingrates on
Afterburner," I teed off on one Tom MacRae, who wrote
a sarcastic letter to the editor when jets flew overhead early one
morning. The paper followed up with a query to Luke AFB, whence the
jets launched, only to discover that the planes had been flying low
for a solemn purpose -- to conduct a "missing-man"
flyby...

Second to an actual in-flight fire, the threat of such a fire is
one of the most unnerving possibilities a pilot can face. Now, NASA
says it's come up with a new fire alarm system agency officials
believe will greatly reduce the number of false fire alarms on
board aircraft.
Most airline passengers and flight crews have one thing in
common: they don't like turbulence. Researchers at NASA's Langley
Research Center in Hampton, VA, and AeroTech Research (USA),
Newport News, VA, have developed an automatic turbulence reporting
system.

Last year at EAA AirVenture, FAA was proud to have just released
the new (and complex) rules for sport pilots and light-sport
aircraft. Predictably, the past year has been very busy for the
folks in FAA Light-Sport Aviation Branch, AFS-610.

Most of us in aviation have become familiar with the
NASA-FAA-Industry partnership called SATS, the Small Aircraft
Transportation System. Looking ahead to 2025 the stated purpose of
this endeavor is to revolutionize transportation: "American

ask every person listening in, whoever and wherever they may be, to
pause for a moment and contemplate the events of the past few hours
and to give thanks in his or her own way."
