NetJets and Signature Aviation jointly announced the ground-breaking of a first-of-its-kind collaboration on a NetJets-exclusive facility at Harry Reid International Airport (KLAS) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The cutting-edge campus includes a custom-designed terminal for the exclusive use of NetJets customers, a NetJets Service Hub, and two hangars. Boeing recently announced an order by LATAM Airlines Group for 10 new 787 Dreamliner widebody jets. The carrier will have the option to purchase five additional 787-9s. The airline’s 787 fleet will reach 52 aircraft by 2030, allowing it to support new nonstop long-haul routes. The fleet expansion confirms LATAM’s position as the largest 787 operator in South America. Airbus announced it has entered into two strategic contracts with the Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR), an international organization based in Bonn, Germany that manages the A400M program on behalf of its member nations in Europe and Turkey. The contracts include the Global Support Services and the Block Upgrade 0 to enhance the aircraft’s capabilities.

The 69-year-old captain of a fishing vessel was medevacked by the U.S. Coast Guard  on October 29 after a call reporting he was experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. At around 4:17 p.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center received a call from a crewmember of the 85-foot commercial vessel Triple Andy who reported the captain’s symptoms. The watchstanders consulted with the flight surgeon on duty, who recommended the medevac.

Workers on strike at Boeing will vote on Monday October 4 on the latest offer from the company. The union representing the workers has endorsed the contract and hopes are high for an approval, but it depends on the workers affirming it in the vote. The provisions represent an improvement over the previous offer, including a 38% wage hike over 4 years, a larger bonus of $12,000 for ratifying the contract, and improvements to retirement plans. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) told the workers it had extracted all it could from the company.

On October 8, 2024, about 0745 mountain standard time, a Piper PA-36-285, N9928P, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Marana, Arizona. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 137 aerial application flight. According to the pilot, he had been applying defoliant to a cotton field and completed a spray run. He climbed to approximately 120 ft above ground level (agl), and the airplane would not climb further.

Eve Air Mobility announced that Embraer-CAE Training Services (ECTS) has been selected as the training provider for Eve’s eVTOL aircraft pilots, maintenance technicians, and ground handling personnel. The services will be incorporated into Eve’s recently announced Eve TechCare, its all-in-one service portfolio for eVTOLs. The ECTS is a joint venture between Embraer and CAE established in 2007 as a way to provide pilot and ground crew training for customers of Embraer’s Phenom 100 and 300 aircraft.

Reid-Hillview Airport (RHV), located in San Jose, California, has formally added GAMI’s unleaded fuel to its services. This makes RHV the first field in the US to offer this new 100 octane unleaded avgas. Santa Clara County, which contains Reid-Hillview Airport, signed a contract with G100UL’s producer, Vitol, for the purchase. It was delivered on Monday, October 28, and was ready to go in a new fuel truck two days later. The truck-to-airplane delivery costs $6.99 per gallon.

A radar approach system operated from the ground by air traffic control personnel transmitting instructions to the pilot by radio. The approach may be conducted with surveillance radar (ASR) only or with both surveillance and precision approach radar (PAR). Usage of the term “GCA” by pilots is discouraged except when referring to a GCA facility. Pilots should specifically request a “PAR” approach when a precision radar approach is desired or request an “ASR” or “surveillance” approach when a nonprecision radar approach is desired.
