L. Paul Soucy Trophy Winner Announced For 2019

Leigh Hubner Of Locust Grove, Georgia Takes The Honor

The 2019 Winner of the L. Paul Soucy Trophy is Leigh Hubner of Locust Grove, Georgia. Originally from Australia, he moved to Los Angeles, California in 2012.

The purpose of the L. Paul Soucy Trophy is to recognize the pilot who achieves the highest scoring percentage at three or more contests during a contest season (best scores averaged together). To qualify, one of those contests must be the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships.

Leigh is an award winning director of photography from Australia based in Los Angeles and Atlanta, now living the dream at Mallards Landing Airport (GA04), Locust Grove, Georgia. For the past 18 years, Leigh has travelled throughout Australia, the U.S., and the world capturing images for major television networks. Leigh's love of aviation goes back as long as he can remember and achieved his private license in his final year of High School. Leigh flew RC aerobatic competitions as a teenager, but never dreamed he'd be in a position to compete in the real deal.

In 2017, Leigh joined IAC and jumped into his first contest at Duel in the Desert in the Primary category flying a his K8CAB Decathlon. His second year, 2018, he competed at the Snowbird Classic and the Bear Creek Bash. He moved up to Sportsman in his new Christen Eagle at that time.

Then in 2019 he competed in five contests including the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships. He flew consistently throughout the 2019 season, scoring between 81.72% to his highest score of 85.79% finishing the season with an average of 84.37% to clinch the L Paul Soucy Trophy. Leigh is also the Regional Series first place winner in Sportsman for the Southeast region.
