Coulson Expands Tanker Fleet By Acquiring Four C130H

Aerial Firefighting Company Now Operates 10 Airtankers

Coulson Aviation, operator of the largest fleet of firefighting air tanker aircraft, announced it has acquired four C-130H aircraft from the New Zealand Defense Force to expand its fleet to 10 aircraft. The aircraft will be relocated to the Coulson base in Thermal, California, for the conversion and modernization process.

Analysis: The flight instructor and pilot receiving instruction were practicing high density altitude training. The pilot receiving instruction made several landings to a pinnacle approved for practice landings by the flight school which was located at about 5,500’ ft msl. The flight instructor decided to try a new landing site, which was not approved by the flight school, located at 6,500’ ft msl.
