Airborne-NextGen 03.04.25: Joby Joins USAF, Moon Lander, GE Catalyst

Joby recently revealed its financial results from the fourth quarter and full year 2024. On top of the monetary success, the plane maker also celebrated its second delivery to the United States Air Force. The Joby air taxi is a fully eVTOL aircraft powered by six motors that propel it to speeds of up to 200 mph. It can carry four passengers at a time for a range of 100 miles, including reserves. Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 lander completed a soft landing on the moon on March 2. This makes Firefly the first commercial company to have its tech successfully touchdown on the moon. Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 lander completed a soft landing on the moon on March 2. This makes Firefly the first commercial company to have its tech successfully touchdown on the moon. Blue Ghost launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on January 15.

Joby, an electric air taxi manufacturer, recently revealed its financial results from the fourth quarter and full year 2024. Total Loss Of Engine Power Due To Water-Contaminated Fuel From An Undetermined Source

Analysis: The pilot stated that after taking off and climbing through about 7,300 ft mean sea level (msl), he heard a “pop” noise. He scanned the engine instruments and saw them “rolling back.” The pilot pitched the airplane for best glide and attempted to restart the engine, which was unsuccessful. Unable to restart the engine, the pilot performed a forced landing to a dirt road in a field, which resulted in substantial damage to both wings.
