Three Fatally Injured When Aircraft Went Down In Heavy Fog
The NTSB has issued its probable cause report in the February,
2010 accident which resulted in the fatal injury of three employees
of the Tesla automobile company and sparking fires in a residential
neighborhood. The board determined that the probable cause of the
accident was the pilot’s failure follow the standard
instrument departure as instructed, and his failure to attain a
sufficient altitude to maintain clearance from power lines during
takeoff in instrument meteorological conditions.
Earlier this year, Cirrus and Continental Motors (CMI)
identified a potential issue associated with the starter drive
adaptor assembly installed on our SR22T and SR22 TURBO aircraft.
While the issue was previously thought to have been addressed,
recent data from the field of the same assembly on non-Cirrus
aircraft indicate otherwise. Slight misalignment of the internal
shaft is suspected to cause side loading and lead to premature
fatigue failure at low hours.
Said GPS Told Him Subdivision Street Was Nearby Airport
A student pilot made what was described as a "hard landing" on a
residential street in Pasco County, Florida near Tampa Tuesday. The
22-year-old pilot of a Cirrus SR20 told sheriff's deputies that his
GPS indicated that the street was Pilot Country Airport (X05),
which is actually about three miles from the Pasco Trails
subdivision where he landed.
