The DOT announced last week that after conducting a thorough
review it has found that Virgin America remains a U.S. citizen and
remains under the actual control of U.S. citizens. Under U.S.
law, only airlines that meet the standards for U.S. citizenship may
hold authority to operate as a U.S. airline.
British based Virgin Atlantic Airways has bought six A330-300
long-range aircraft from Airbus, and is leasing a further four from
AerCap. The contract was formally completed on December 30th, 2009,
following an initial announcement earlier in June.

In the national State of the American Traveler survey conducted
this week by Destination Analysts, 47 percent of American leisure
travelers reported they either "Agreed" or "Strongly agreed" that
airport screening techniques were not sufficient.
