Air Shows Run The Whole Week With Warbirds, Demonstrators, and Rarities Galore

This year's schedule for AirVenture has been unveiled, with every day of the expo filled with a variety of performances, aircraft, and demonstrations unseen anywhere else. AirVenture will enter its 71st year from July 22nd to the 28th, at its longtime home at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Old warbirds and high-strung racers can be finicky little monsters, and it's not all too rare for surprise maintenance to crop up the day before a demo. But for most planning purposes, the schedule below is what you'll get.

Congressional Caucus Quickly Finds Fans in Business Aviation Community

A dozen international Av-Biz stakeholders have responded to the establishment of the Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus, extending an olive branch on behalf of the "CLIMBING. FAST." initiative. “The organizations supporting the CLIMBING. FAST. advocacy initiative applaud Reps. Sharice Davids (D-03-Kan.) and Dusty Johnson (R-At-Large-SD) for their leadership in taking the important step to form the Congressional Sustainable Aviation Caucus, supporting business aviation’s path to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050."

The Air Race Classic will launch from Southern Illinois Airport (KMDH) in Carbondale/Murphysboro on Tuesday July 18 and terminate 2,610 statute miles later on Saturday July 21 at the Northern Colorado Regional Airport (KFNL) in Loveland, Colorado. The annual competition of planning, strategy, skill, and teamwork goes back 95 years to the 1929 Women’s Air Derby. The effort to recover the remains of Richard Bong's old P-38 Lightning have already fostered some changes between Pacific Wrecks, the team searching for it, and its resting place of Papua New Guinea. Bong earned himself the Medal of Honor while flying 'Marge', his P-38, but the aircraft was lost when it was loaned out to another pilot in his unit, never to be seen again. Handful of Conditions to See Different Treatment Going Forward

The Federal Aviation Administration released a substantial update to their Guide for Aviation Medical Examiners, shaking things up with a whole host of new industry consensus and refreshed policy regarding some common health conditions. Things aren't exactly easy street across the board, since AME's will still have to follow some very specific criteria for congestive heart failure and a handful of mental health issues, but it's a great improvement to the previous system.

Suk Min Choi, known to his million-plus YouTube subscribers as Alex Choi, has been arrested and faces federal charges for “causing the placement of an explosive or incendiary device on an aircraft.” The charges result from Choi’s allegedly being the mastermind behind a scheme to create a video showing a Lamborghini speeding and doing donuts on a dry lake bed as passengers in a low-flying helicopter shoot fireworks aimed at the car. A well-filmed clip began circulating over the weekend, showing a Harbour Air seaplane as it began its takeoff roll and collided with a boat. The aircraft was operating under Harbour Air, a seaplane operator in Vancouver, Canada. Volato has opted to go with SmartSky for its future inflight connectivity needs, selecting the SmartSky LITE system for its internet basis on a pair of aircraft to start. This round yields the point to SmartSky, netting them some added cachet as the purveyors to the largest HondaJet fleet around. “After evaluating the available options for Wi-Fi for our fleet, SmartSky demonstrated the capability to deliver the high-quality connected experience our customers expect,” said Mike Prachar, Chief Operating Officer of Volato. 

Charter Operator Promises to Convert 4 of its Grand Caravans to Surf's Electric Propulsion

Surf Air Mobility inked a memorandum of understanding with a Brazilian Caravan operator to convert 4 of their aircraft into electric aircraft. Surf Air has been pretty busy finding business south of the equator, where the Cessna Caravan and Grand Caravan often form the backbone of outlying settlements' air transit. Asta Linhas Aéreas plies the usual Caravan trade in Brazil, focusing on tourism, corporate, cargo, and charter services with the robustly capable aircraft. They intend to send 4 of their Grand Caravans up to Surf Air Mobility for the modification once it's certified.
