A Ghana-based Boeing 747-200 freighter went down in Halifax,
Nova Scotia, Thursday while on a flight from New York to Spain,
according to local authorities. All seven crew members were
reportedly killed in the accident.
Airbus Corporate Jetliner (ACJ) family customers are being
offered access to a newly designated network of service centers
that specialize in executive and private aviation.
In June, 1997, Airbus got a memo from one of its production
partners, Daimler-Benz Aerospace, which said in part, "rudder
movements from left limit to right limit" on an A300 "will produce
loads on the fin/rear fuselage above ultimate design load." Four
years later, according to the NTSB, that very scenario caused
American Airlines Flight 587 -- an Airbus A300 -- to go down in a
residential neighborhood in Belle Harbor (NY).
Mooney Announces Alliance With Million Air Chain of FBOs
Officials with Mooney Airplane Company have announced an
alliance with select Million Air fixed-base operations (FBO) across
the country to develop a fuel and maintenance saving program for
its customers.
Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation has completed its acquisition of
Schweizer Aircraft Corporation. Schweizer speciales in the light
helicopter, reconnaissance aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicle
(UAV) markets.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today announces
it is purchasing five Explosives Detection Trace Portal machines
from Smiths Detection of Pine Brook (NJ), for delivery and
deployment in early 2005. The equipment has been effective in
screening passengers for explosives at various airport security
checkpoints and TSA is eager to expand to additional sites. The TSA
says it will announce the selected airports in the next few
weeks.
Boundary Layer Research is planning their introduction of the
Raytheon/Beechcraft KingAir B200 winglet and performance system in
early 2005. Developmental flight test of the winglets completed in
late 2003 demonstrated reduced drag, shorter landing distances, and
improved handling.
General Electric Co. and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. have formally
established a new joint venture company, GE Honda Aero Engines LLC,
which is pursuing the launch of Honda’s HF118 turbofan engine
in the light business jet market.
An unidentified worker at Walker Field in Grand Junction (CO)
was killed Monday when he was struck by another aircraft, according
to local authorities, who say it happened in a hangar belonging to
Monument Aircraft.

New Runway Just Part Of $7.3 Million Facelift For Wisconsin

They didn't do it with a fast, upside down aerobatic airplane
flying just inches from the ground, but the runway ribbon cutting
ceremony at the new and much improved Middleton Municipal/Morey
Field Airport (WI) was almost as exciting. City and state officials
joined Rich Morey in a ceremonious ribbon cutting that marked an
important milestone in the ongoing enhancements being made at the
Middleton Airport.
Northrop Grumman Corporation says it's been awarded a $39
million contract to help NASA's Langley Research Center, Hampton
(VA) mature key airframe structures technologies under a recently
awarded indefinite delivery/ indefinite quantity (ID/IQ)
contract.
"It's important I was able to get out and see this for myself,
to fly in it and to have it demonstrated to me," the general said.
"I'll be able to go back and tell our folks just exactly how well
the program is going, how well the testing is going and what great
performance we get out of the aircraft. I hope this says that we
think this is an important piece of equipment for the future of
special operations."
