Historic European Tour Ends as “That’s All, Brother” Returns Home

Iconic C-47 Skytrain Celebrated Abroad and at Home

That’s All, Brother, the Commemorative Air Force’s (CAF) famous Douglas C-47 Skytrain, the military version of the civilian DC-3 transport, has returned to its home base at San Marcos Regional Airport in Texas. The aircraft has been on an extended journey touring Europe and participating in numerous commemorative events and reenactments marking the 80th Anniversary of D-Day and the 75th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. The aircraft also took part in educational programs highlighting the D-Day invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, which began the liberation of Europe from under Nazi control.

American Airlines Steps Up Commitment to Low-Carbon Propulsion

Agrees to Buy 100 ZeroAvia Fuel Cell-Powered Engines

American Airlines is increasing its investment in novel engine technology to achieve its aggressive goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Fort Worth, Texas, -based company has entered into a conditional purchase agreement for 100 ZeroAvia engines powered by hydrogen-electric fuel cells. The fuel cells generate electricity to power electric motors which turn the propellers and run aircraft electrical systems, and the engines are intended to power regional turboprops and jets with zero emissions except water vapor.

NASA Announces Backup Crew for Artemis Lunar Missions

Andre Douglas Still in the Running for Other Artemis

A backup crewman has been named for the upcoming Artemis campaign, adding Andre Douglas to a roster of possible lunar landers in the years to come. “Andre’s educational background and extensive operational experience in his various jobs prior to joining NASA are clear evidence of his readiness to support this mission,” said Joe Acaba, chief astronaut at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. “He excelled in his astronaut candidate training and technical assignments, and we are confident he will continue to do so as NASA’s backup crew member for Artemis II.”

Thirteen Reno-Area Youth Awarded Flight Training Scholarships

Reno Air Racing Association Presents Awards

The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) has announced the recipients for its 2024 Flight Training Scholarship (FTS) program. They are all from Reno, Nevada, and the surrounding areas. Each will receive up to $10,000 to be used to cover the training expenses incurred to earn their Private Pilot certificates. The scholarship program has grown since its initial launch in 2022 and a total of $300,000 in funding has been awarded to date. NASA Contract Supports HyTEC Phase 2 Project

GE Aerospace is busy modifying one of its large Passport aircraft engines with hybrid electric components as part of research and development work under a Phase 2 contract awarded by NASA’s Hybrid Thermally Efficient Core (HyTEC) project. The company has also been performing basic technical testing and analysis to lay the groundwork for later phases. Modern Aviation, a New York city-based growth-oriented FBO network, has signed a Purchase Agreement to buy two hangars from Floors and Doors at Centennial Airport (KAPA) in Englewood, Colorado. Together, the hangar and office structures include 113,000 square feet of structures with 53,273 sf of hangar space, 52,406 sf of offices, and 7,320 sf of parking. It also includes ground subleases of the 280,526 sf of land underlying the properties.

On June 14, 2024, about 0840 central daylight time, Air Tractor AT-502B, N2032K, and Air Tractor AT-502B N8525V were involved in a midair collision near Whiteface, Texas. N2032K sustained substantial damage, and the pilot sustained serious injuries. N8525V sustained substantial damage, and the pilot was fatally injured.
