Aero-TV At Oshkosh 2010: Looking Back At Day One

This is Aero TV's Daily Update on EAA AirVenture Oshkosh for Monday, July 26th, 2010

ANN-E-I-C Note: As you read this, over 2 dozen ANN staffers, stringers and associates are still working their way back home after working their (expletive deleted)'s off at the annual Oshkosh aerial insane asylum. We shot a record amount of material (and dozens of amazing Aero-TV and Aero-Cast programs are now undergoing development), wrote more stories than ever before and quite simply, had a blast working ourselves into a state of semi-consciousness with the BEST Oshkosh Crew we've EVER assembled. We will be re-running our carefully crafted Aero-TV Daily reports each day this week so that those of you who were at the "Big O" can see what we did while you were in Wisconsin trying to dry off and relive the best of the truly amazing (if soggy) week that was Oshkosh 2010.

Following that, we have some surprises for you... big ones -- REALLY big ones. And that means more than just dozens of REALLY great new stories, even greater Aero-TV programs (using some really slick new cameras that will blow you away), and some truly amazing Aero-Casts... and then... well... how about ANN's most aggressive site upgrade in the last five years?

That's right! There's a whole new ANN... and it will debut in a matter of days... and that's ONLY A SMALL PART OF THE GREAT NEW THINGS WE HAVE COMING YOUR WAY... stay tuned!!! -- Jim Campbell, Deeply Fatigued and Somewhat Soggy Editor-In-Chief/CEO (Guy Who Takes The Blame).

**************

The topic on everyone's mind on opening day was the recent record rainfall. In his remarks, EAA Chairman and President Tom Poberezny addressed the issue.

In an unexpected announcement, Poberezny introduced the man who will replace him as President of EAA.

US Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano came to AirVenture to announce the expansion of the "See something, Say Something" campaign to general aviation.

Bose announced its new Aviation Headset Model A20, which replaces the Headset Ten in the lineup effective immediately.

Tom Poberezny praised the second prototype of the Terrafugia Transition as an illustration of the innovative ideas the world sees first at Oshkosh.

Piper Aircraft announced PiperMatch, a new program to assist prospective customers who need partners to make ownership pencil out.

Tom Poberezny brought reporters their second surprise of the day by announcing a new prize competition for electric aircraft he said will be a part of next year's AirVenture.

On Monday, AirVenture attendees watched as more than 20 DC-3s and C-47s arrived together to mark the 75th anniversary of the plane's first flight in 1935. But you'd have had to travel to Rock Falls, Illinois to see more than 30 of the planes gathered together on a single ramp. In case you missed The Last Time reunion event, here's a sample.

Join us again tomorrow to look back at our next daily update on EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010... from Aero-TV.
