MOC-Sim To Release eVTOL Sim

Next Generation eVTOL Simulator Launched

German company MOC Simulation Services GmbH has announced their development of a simulator geared towards pilot training for the fast-growing eVTOL market. With aircraft that fly differently from standard rotary and fixed-wing competitors, operators have been faced with an issue of how to more efficiently, affordably, and safely train aviators on such a different aircraft from the norm.

While more affordable than conventionally-powered aircraft, actual flight is inherently less efficient to train multiple students or focus on particular flight conditions.

MOC's expertise will soon come to address this shortfall in the field. They see promise by building a foothold in the market by leveraging their successful history over 35 projects. Building on their FlightMec 250 full motion simulator, their to-be-named eVTOL sim will boast a single seat mounted atop a multi-axis motion base, encased in a spherical panorama. Vision is expected to be wide, with a view down to -60?, with even greater levels possible upon request. The visual system is equipped with a multi-channel Project:Syntropy brand projection system with the optimal display for each aircraft, including auto-alignment. Level D full motion provided by Siemens VRXSim will allow 6 degrees of freedom, with the quick, responsive handling needed to keep up with realistic aircraft movement rates of a nimble multirotor aircraft. MOC will build their system with a modular flight deck, suitable for Roll-In/Roll-Off technology. Operators can customize their simulated panel for optimum transfer of skills and muscle memory, should they choose.

The first eVTOL simulator iteration is expected to be fully functional and training ready by the end of 2022, but it is far from the only project in the works for MOC. Alongside joining the Vertical Flight Society in November 2021, the company has made further development on a smaller, more compact VR and Mixed reality trainer, allowing for a smaller, more compact training footprint with limited panel accoutrements. The company expects a drastic increase in demand for sustainable electric flight that will only increase as pilot demand affects the brand new market. With more designs achieving certification and little foundation for personnel and compensation having been made, it remains a mystery how enticing already extant pilots will find the eVTOL career path.
