Coast Guard Rescues Pilot In St. John The Baptist Parish

USCG MH-65 To The Rescue!

The Coast Guard rescued a pilot of a downed aircraft last week in St. John the Baptist Parish. Rescued was Calvin King, who was transported that evening to University Medical Center in New Orleans with a reportedly broken arm and no other reported injuries.

The FAA ASIAS site says that the aircraft involved was N567N, a Piper PA38 Tomahawk and that the, "Aircraft lost engine power and crashed in a marsh, Reserve, La."

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report around 9 p.m. from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office that a single engine plane had crashed in a swampy area north of Port of South Louisiana Executive Regional Airport, with one person aboard.

Watchstanders directed a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter aircrew to the vicinity, where the aircrew recovered the pilot from the wreckage.

E-I-C Note: You may have noticed that we regularly chronicle the aviation efforts of the US Coast Guard... who have one of the most accomplished aviation units of any military service. Time and time again, the folks of USCG fly into some often-ungodly weather to pull off rescues that are difficult to believe. ANN staff has seen these folks working at close range, and we continue to be impressed...
